Mermaid School

Got this for our toddler when she became interested in mermaids. It is a wonderful book! The artwork is just beautiful- can't get enough of all the watercolor drawings. They are captivating on their own as standalone prints but also work so well in telling the story. The book kept our toddler engaged throughout. It is the perfect book for anyone looking for a mermaid book (or just a cute story in general).

The cover and illustrations in this book are really cute. My three year old daughter just recently discovered a love for mermaids, so I bought this book for her about two months ago. It does look really beautiful displayed in her room on her bookledge and she liked the pictures, but those are the best parts of the book. My husband and I are both teachers, and we are a family of avid readers. We own thousands of children’s books, and our three year old is a huge fan of reading; however, she’s only asked for this book twice since we’ve had it, which is very uncharacteristic of her. I think the problem is that the author’s beautiful prose writing is focused more on the pleasant meter and rhyming scheme than telling a captivating story. I really wish books would simply tell a story sometimes, especially this one with a unique premise. Don’t get me wrong, things do “happen” in the story, but she doesn’t feel connected to the main mermaid and there’s no real story arch. If you just want a cute-looking mermaid book for your summer bookshelf, than this may be the right choice for you. Otherwise, if you want a captivating or funny story your children will ask for again and again, I’d pick another one. We have five kids and none are a fan of this one.

This story book held my four year old daughter’s interest.

I absolutely loved this book. I gave it to my grand daughter who turned 4. She had just started preschool so I thought she might like it and she did. I have told several people about this book. The story is simple and the art work is fun.

Love the concept & bought it for my 4 year old granddaughter but some of the pictures were too scary.

I purchased this book for my two sons & they love it. It has little boy mermaids in it too which they love & overall it's a very cute story with beautiful illustrations.

My daughter adores Mermaid School and took it out from the library at least ten times, so getting her a copy was a must. The story is told in poetry form and is charming with lovely illustrations. I highly recommend it for all girls 4+ years.

Beautiful and good for kids who are starting preschool/school.
