My brother and I own an investment property and we sometimes get called in by the tenants to fix their gas stove or water heater. Part of fixing is to check for gas leaks, and one way of doing so is to use soapy water and look for bubbles. Gas has compounds mixed in to help you smell it because natural gas itself is odorless.With all that said, having a leak detector helps to pinpoint leaks faster. Usage is simple: turn it on, wait for the Ready light, and point around until you see the light bars and tone increase in intensity. If leaks still are not detected and you can smell the gas, adjust the knob on the right side to increase the detection sensitivity.If you find a leak, open all windows and shut off the gas valve.

I read the reviews for this and many other detectors. If you need a specific and highly accurate detector, then you will need to pony up and spend BIG money to get the right tool. In reality, sensitivity and high accuracy in sensors costs money. But if you need a go-no go type of tool, then this might work for you. Understand that it is basically a hydrocarbon gas sensor. So, methane, propane, butane and even your dog’s farts will be detected. If you understand how this tool functions, then you can use it for checking your gas line installations for example. I used it for checking 200 feet of gas lines, I replaced in our home. You’ll need to make sure the room is aired out before you start. Adjust the sensitivity so it just barely buzzes in the aired out room, then begin your sweep. It will then act as a differential type of indicator. If it lights up and makes more noise, then you probably have a leak. Did not test outdoors, so don’t know how that would work

Your browser does not support HTML5 video.  I do a lot of grilling and I have gas all over the place. Heating located in the attic, hot water tank, stove, indoor and outdoor fireplace and my grill. I researched and found this gas leak detector with good specs and gave it a try. I was not dissapointed, this one works great where it picks up the slightest leak and very easy to trace to the source as the signal gets stronger. I really like the long wand, giving me plenty of space in getting closer to leaks. So far, I have used this on all of the gas devices that I have, and found no issues, except for an old leaky propane tank in the shed, which, I can say, could easily have saved my life. Hard to show this in pics, where I did a video to show how nice this one is. No cons, best device and well worth the money where I am very happy with the purchase.

I wanted to check out for any leaks before an inspection was scheduled to make sure not to run into trouble. Work great!

Very good unit read all instructions before use. I highly recommend for personal use it is way better than smaller units that i previously had. Use it how it was intended and you will be very satisfied.

We live in an old house with gas and have had a couple of scares. This tool came in handy on our last one. The sensitivity adjustment may be a little hard to get right for some, but it detected properly.
