Fairfield Porter

Great reproductions of Porter's work, several I'd never seen before, with some enlarged details that as an artist I found valuable to better understand how he painted.

My wife purchased a print called "Under the Elms" many years ago. It has been hanging on our living room wall for 30-35 years. We love the style, which might be called "Country Impressionism". Finally we looked up Porter's name on Amazon and found this book. We are thrilled and happy with the book, which gives insight into his work and relates his influences. The pictures are beautiful and We recommend his work!

This is a good general Fairfield Porter book. There are many nicely printed full colour reproductions. My only disappointment was thelimited number of his still life paintings. I like still life and he painted some great still life pics, not reproduced here.Some pictures were printed twice or more, maybe to pad the book.

Book was in great condition except for a slight wear on the cover page .I have no problem with that ; as it will be read and used as a reference for painting and not a coffee table book .

Disappointing....the colors were drab and indistinct and did not do Porter justice. Better to just go online and see photos of his paintings in their vibrant colors.

Interesting book on Porter. Would have preferred more text about his life.

I'd been on the look-out for an affordable book on Porter for some time and this one is a cracker.A large and heavy hardback, it's a very well-illustrated volume with 109 listed colour plates of the paintings supplemented by numerous details; most of the plates are large (many of the details are full-page bleeds) and it provides a fairly good balance of all the artist's output with portraits, interiors, still life and landscape all represented.Porter is a painter's painter and I love his lush use of oil paint and the deceptive simplicity of his brushwork - only the churlish would carp at this lavish volume.It's a pity there is no “Look inside “ option available so one could make one's own judgement.A terrific book to look through and study - I'm very pleased with this indeed.

Lovely reproductions - a gem for anyone interested in this unfairly neglected painter

Fairfield Porter was a wonderful surprise to me as until recently I had not known his work. He paints a world where life was slower and calmer.... summers were not so harsh.
