Got Rid of That Horrific Odor and Soap Scum
Every once in awhile, my washing machine stinks...BIG TIME. A very foul, rotten egg-ish scent. As soon as I get a whiff of the dreaded odor, I immediately pour white vinegar in the machine, turn the water setting to HOT and run a wash cycle (no clothing in the machine) to clean it. Recently, I had to do this twice in one week and doing so still didn't get rid of the odor. This is NOT normal; usually a vinegar wash does the trick. Not this time. I did try the washing machine cleaning tablets a few years ago and wasn't super impressed with the results. I got better results with my vinegar wash. Since it didn't work this time, I did a search for a new cleaner for the washer. I decided to go with a liquid this time rather than a tablet and settled on Glisten washer cleaner thanks to the low price and the high rating from other users. 2 bottles come in a pack, each 12oz. (they arrived a day early!) Per the instructions, I used 1/2 cup of the cleaner along with the HOT water setting on the machine and ran the washer through a regular wash cycle. (no clothing in the machine) After one normal wash cycle, the scent was GONE entirely and has not returned! I am SO relieved! I keep my washing machine pretty clean though it had light soap scum build up inside so I used a bit of Glisten on a cloth, wiped over the scum and off it came, just like that. I was so impressed, I mentioned Glisten to my sister. She does NOT keep her washing machine clean. I wound up taking a bottle to her house and letting her use it to clean her washing machine. The results speak for themselves. Glisten did an impressive job cleaning her machine. (she didn't run a cycle using Glisten, she poured Glisten on a rag and cleaned out the interior of her machine) I'll be using Glisten monthly as directed to keep the funky, foul odor away. It worked for me with ONE use and the price can't be beat. It worked a miracle on my sister's machine as well! RECOMMENDED! photos: before/after using Glisten on my sister's washing machine

Nice smell
From what I can tell product seems good. I like that it's liquid - it's the only one, all the other brands are powder. I like that it does not have any strong chemical smell and instead just fresh and clean. As far as keeping the inner workings of the machine clean, who knows? But it's better than not cleaning it all!

Regular Cleaning Prevents Grunge Build-Up
My bladeless washing machine developed a terrible odor and was leaving bits of grunge on the clothes after a year of use. The appliance repair tech said it was a build-up of dirt and soap on the outside of the tub, and recommended this cleaner. With the help of online videos, Reddit threads, and a borrowed machine to loosen some bolts we were finally able to remove the tub and clean it thoroughly. Hoping regular use of this cleaner will prevent the problem from recurring.

Good for on-going maintenance but not magic
This product is not magic in the sense of fixing a washing machine that has suffered from hard water build up and door-seal mildew for an extended period of time. In my case, we bought a home that came with a washer and dryer but had no water softener (we installed a softener first thing). The washer had a very significant build-up of hard water deposits and a very musty odor because of door seal water trapping. No single product had much effect on reducing these. What it took was lots of manual scraping in each of the hundreds of holes in the washer basket (front-loading, high-efficiency LG washer), manual cleaning of the input and internal washing machine filters, a dozen or so loads run in the washer with just white vinegar, more loads with a heavy dose of bleach and repeated wipe-downs of the interior and door seal with bleach. Bottom line: there is no magic for a neglected washing machine. With all that said, I have also used this product on a monthly basis over the past couple months. The washer now works fine, cleans well and is free of odors and build-up. If got that way by virtue of the many combined efforts described above. This product may be sufficient to keep it that way, but it isn't a silver bullet.

works
Never had a problem with having to wash my washer before and who knew you were even supposed to. For years I made my own laundry detergent then for some reason I started buying liquid detergent for my front loader. After awhile my towels started to smell weird, thinking I needed to add more soap, I did. That didn't help so added the smell good stuff you throw into the drum. That worked for a while. Then one day they start smelling bad. It was weird as our clothes smelled clean, it was only the towels. This time I went online to find out why. Holy cow, I am not alone, others have the same issue. I got a bright flashlight and started to look at the "boot", drum and the area you put detergent in. Let's just say I was grossed out at what I found. Even though I had been wiping the boot when I was done washing and leaving the door open, there was mold in the second fold of the boot and in the drawer where you put the detergent. I did some research and found this product. I had to use this twice to clean my machine. It worked. There is still residue on the drum but it's no longer black and no longer smelly. Not sure how to get it totally clean without taking the whole machine apart and scraping it off. Now, I use this once a month, take the drawer out and wipe it down and leave out till next washing, wipe the boot and it's second fold when I'm done with washing. Sounds like a lot, but actually takes a minute. Also, I use a lot less liquid soap as that is one of the problems to soap build up. When it's gone, will go back to making my own soap, as there was never any build up on my machine and everything came out clean and smelling great, even the towels, which now I still have to wash with baking soda and vinegar from time to time.

Wow — I’m really impressed with this Glisten Washer Magic cleaner. I’ve been using it in my washer every month, and honestly, it’s made a big difference. What I Loved: removal: My washing machine used to have a faint musty smell, especially after a few cycles. After using Washer Magic, that smell is basically gone. I did a hot cycle with it, and afterward the drum and door seal just smell clean. Over time, soap residue, mineral deposits, and detergent drawer gunk had built up a lot more than I realized. This cleaner really loosens and flushes out that build-up — I can tell because my clothes feel fresher and the machine seems to rinse better now. According to the product info, it’s made to remove “abrasive build-up caused by hard water, soils and detergent” so it aligns with what I’m seeing.
