Own a 1987 318 a true old work horse. Battery light was on after start up, check dc out put notabove battery. Checked a c output nothing at all. Looked at the options on the internet. Was impressed by D B electricals site. Price was right, part arrived on time and function after startup. Beats receiving parts from a book store. Will repeat going to DB electrical on my next need.

This voltage regulator was a direct replacement for my John Deere 318 Onan engine. One note to buyers, no mounting bolt is included. The OEM is a standard thread, this one appears to be metric. Have a 1/4 - 20 tap handy if you want to use the original mounting bolt.

Fixed my battery charging issue on my welder!

I put it on a John Deere 318 with the Onan 218 engine. The battery light was on and the original regulator was only putting out about 12 volts, as opposed to a preferred 13.5-14.5 volt range. This one is very similar to the original, but I have to say it wasn't a perfect fit into the the 318. The original fit in further but this one was a little bit bigger in a couple of areas. I was able to bolt in place, but it wasn't in as far as the original. Works good though!

Its not exact size fit for my Onan 24xl engine but it works. We'll see how long as many other reviews said they crap out after little use.

The battery on my lawn tractor wasn't getting a full charge while cutting the lawn, hmm, could it be the 30 year old voltage regulator or the stator? Well stators usually don't die, perhaps that spark when I carelessly brushed the wrench against the voltage regulator plug on my Onan tractor engine was the cause. JD wanted $100 for "new old stock", ok it's been on their shelf for quite a while, but that seemed high. This regulator works perfectly and for 85% less money. Battery gets its full charge each time I cut.

This regulator bolted directly into the same position as the OEM Part and performs flawlessly! The part from my local warehouse was going to be $63.00 and this part was only $15.00.

While it didn't fit the shroud hole exactly, it fit well enough without modification. Also, the threads were a little different from the factory bolt but I was able to cut new threads with the bolt. Not the way I generally repair something but I think it will be fine and it's charging again.

great aftermarket replacement for my Tecumseh HH160 20 amp alternator ;)

It's works good so far on my case 646 mini tractor. Time will tell if its as good as the factory one that was 1976. The new one is a quarter size of the original.
