Best stud finder I have used
After trying a number of stud finders over the years—some cheap, some mid-range—I finally decided to invest in the Franklin Sensors ProSensor M210, and I can confidently say it’s a significant step up from traditional models. If you’re someone who frequently does DIY projects, home renovations, or even occasional wall-mounting, this stud finder is well worth considering.Build Quality & DesignRight out of the box, the ProSensor M210 feels solid and well-constructed. It’s larger than some entry-level stud finders, but that’s not a bad thing—it offers a broader scan area, and the ergonomic design makes it easy to hold and operate with one hand. The rubberized grip gives it a sturdy, comfortable feel, and it’s simple to store in a toolbox or drawer.Ease of UseThis is where the M210 really shines. Unlike other models that require you to “calibrate” on the wall or slide slowly back and forth, this one works instantly. Just press it against the wall, and it lights up to show the entire width of the stud with a series of LED indicators. No guesswork. No beeping. No false readings (which were frustratingly common with cheaper models I’ve used). There’s also no need to sweep side-to-side multiple times or “anchor” on a blank section of drywall to get started. It automatically adjusts and gives a clear picture of what’s behind the wall right away.Accuracy & PerformanceThe accuracy of the M210 is excellent. It detects both the edges and center of studs simultaneously, which is something most other stud finders struggle with. You get a visual representation of the stud’s width, making it far less likely to miss or drill into the wrong spot. I’ve used it to hang shelves, TVs, and cabinets, and it’s been spot-on every time.It can also detect multiple studs at once, which is especially helpful in areas with narrow spacing (like near corners or around windows). And because of the wider sensor array, you get a better “big picture” of what’s behind your wall rather than just a single-point reading.Battery LifeThe unit runs on two AA batteries, which are easy to install and replace. I’ve used it for several projects and haven’t had to change the batteries yet. Since there’s no constant beeping or display, the power usage seems very efficient.Pros• Instant, no-calibration scanning – Just press and go.• Multiple LED indicators – Clearly shows stud width and position.• Wide sensor array – Scans larger sections of wall at once.• Accurate and consistent – Reduces false positives and missed studs.• Durable and ergonomic – Feels like a tool built to last.• No unnecessary features – Simple, straightforward, and focused on performance.• Live wire detection• There is also a dedicated spot to hold your pencil to make marking your studs that much easier. Getting the pencil out can sometimes be a challenge, but it’s nice to have one readily available.Cons• Larger size – Not pocket-sized like some basic models (but that’s the tradeoff for the wide scan).• Price – More expensive than entry-level options, but the performance justifies the cost.Final ThoughtsThe Franklin Sensors ProSensor M210 is arguably one of the best stud finders available in its category. It strips away the gimmicks and focuses on fast, reliable, and easy stud detection. Whether you’re a professional or a serious DIYer, it saves time, increases accuracy, and takes the frustration out of wall-mounting projects. If you’re tired of slow or inaccurate stud finders, the M210 is a smart investment. It’s now one of those tools I find myself reaching for constantly—and recommending to anyone who asks.Would also recommend that you purchase a storage case for this stud finder to protect your investment. The manufacturer does offer one, but there are also other third-party brands out there that you could purchase.

It’s Like the Stud Finder Finally Got a Brain – and a Heart!
I didn’t think I could feel this strongly about a stud finder… but here we are. Replacing my old, basic stud finder with the Franklin Sensors ProSensor M210 has been a total game-changer. This thing doesn’t beep and blink and guess — it knows. From the first use, I was amazed at how fast, accurate, and reliable it is. No more second-guessing or slowly inching along the wall hoping for a false-positive. The M210 lights up the entire stud in real-time, and even shows multiple studs at once if they’re there — something my old model couldn’t dream of doing. The display is large, bright, and super easy to read, even in dim lighting. It gives you instant confidence that you're drilling in the right spot. And as a thoughtful bonus, it even comes with a pencil conveniently stored right in the tool, so you’re always ready to mark your spot the moment you find it. Little things like that really show how well this tool was designed with the user in mind. It’s solid, intuitive, no calibration fuss, and simply works every time. Hanging shelves, mounting TVs, and tackling weekend projects has never felt easier or more foolproof. If you’re still using one of those old-school beep-and-hope models, do yourself a favor and upgrade. The M210 isn’t just a better stud finder — it’s the one you wish you’d bought first.

Wish I bought this sooner
I have been using a stud finder I bought about 7 or 8 years ago. While that does the work, it used to be a little challenging to locate the center. It used to be basically a guessing game. Sometimes, I would end up drilling on the edge of the stud. I had been thinking of getting a new stud finder for a while but didn’t wanted to get an extra pair. Until recently I had to drill a hole in the ceiling joist and had to make few guesses to find the right spot. Finally I was done and ended up getting this one. I love that this product starts scanning and find the studs right away. Not just that, it helps find the thickness as you move around. Wish I had bought this sooner.

Hard to tell metal or wood
We probably used it 6 or 7 times. It worked well as intended to locate wood but sometimes the signal seems not be stable. You have to move back and forth few times to truly verify that’s spot. It is light-weight and comes with leveler. It’s very durable for sure, thick plastic built.

Does Not Work Well On Old Hardboard And Plaster Walls
Houses built in the 50s and in that era did not have drywall on interior walls of residential homes. I am not sure what it was called back then but it is denser that the common 1/2' drywall of today. My house has this construction and in addition to the hardboard, a coat of smooth plaster is applied over this for the finish. This makes for a thicker/denser media for the stud finder to work in and I had my doubts it would accurately locate stud centers. I was right, testing the unit on a wall that I knew where the stud was located and seen, the stud finder could not accurately find the center and repeated attempts kept placing the center in different locations even though I could see the stud in this test run.Since I needed the accurate stud location and not just ''close enough,'' I gave up and returned the unit. I did give it the old college try but on older homes, I am calling no joy.It is extremely well built and well thought out in the construction; just did not do it for me in this instance.Returning to the local UPS store was a snap as they have incorporated new procedures to make it easy and non-eventful. No additional boxes are necessary, just scan the code given by Amazon into the machine in the store and it prints out the return tag instantly. Supplied plastic bags are used and you seal up the end with the wraparound of the return label and just give it to the store clerk. My only lament is that it did not locate the studs as I had hoped, and I had to resort to other methods to find the studs to finish my project.I gave 5 stars for the construction of the stud finder but I will have to say 4 stars for the performance of it.
