Kaytee X-Large Guinea Pig Cage

This cage looked so great on line and was so disappointing when it arrived. It was so close to be "just what we wanted". First the goodPROS -- Love the see through base - it's easy to see the hammy- RIght size for 2 levels- LightweightBut... that's it.CONS- Very flimsy - the cage parts are all so cheaply made that it's wobbly at best. I can't imagine successfully lifting this from the floor to let's say a table with a pet inside. It would be too dangerous.- Poorly constructed - the parts fit together - eventually. It's a simple assembly, at least it should be - but considering how cheaply made the parts are the don't easily fit together until you have everything lined up perfectly. Then there was still one part on the top that never lined up correctly. I'm still not sure if that part was right.- Bars are varying widths. Sure, most of them were too small for my hammy to get through, but not all of them. There were a few bars at the top were easy for her to escape in the first hour.The good news is that while our hammy was able to escape, this cage is so easy to escape from that she got out fast and she was easy to find. She was just under the couch and by the time we found her, she had a mouth stuffed full of treasures that she found. Later we tried it again and watched, and she "showed" us how easy it was for her to climb up the bars and get out.So, it all ended well for Scribbles - we gave her some carrots in exchange for the loss of the inappropriate "snacks" she found under the couch, but we did return the cage.

It would have been a lot easier to put together if the bars and plastic latches weren’t super bent to the point of not fitting together. One piece of a bar was even broken upon arrival… I could tell from the other reviews that I wouldn’t be getting the highest quality from Kaytee, but I’m making it work just for the size and the price. Definitely not for smaller animals like hamsters because they would easily escape through the bar spacing. Very “meh” purchase. If you do order, you’ll see exactly what I’m talking about for yourself and you can decide if it’s worth it or not.

I bought this cage for guinea pigs. It's a decent size for them and I love that the bottom is clear so they can easily see out.

I had to bend the wires a bit to get the different metal parts to stay together. It’s a pretty nice cage, but some parts were bent. I ended up returning it, however because the rungs are too far apart for a Syrian hamster. My hamster escaped from this. It should work fine for a guinea pig.

Easy to clean and a nice size but always lift it from the bottom. It doesn’t lock into place at the ends correctly.

All and all I would say this is a decent cage. It can be a little flimsy but once placed where it belongs it’s fine. My little Guinea Pig has plenty of room as of right now. Eventually I may need to size up. The ramp is very flimsy but doable. However it works well for what I need and I am pleased.

Only Kaytee cage suitable for Syrian hamsters!!I purchased this cage for my syrian hamster and she loves it!!! It has more than sufficient appropriate floor space!!! The recommended is 450 square feet, which cage offers well above the 700 square foot !!! My syrian doesn't even fit through the cage spaces. Its highly recommended cage, but only for Syrian hamsters. The colors make the cage pretty too. It's the absolute best cage out there for hamsters in the kaytee line. It's super easy to clean too!!!

We bought this item for a rat. They grow to be pretty large. Many people said that it worked well for their rat(s). Ours can escape from it. If you are buying for a larger animal like a rabbit or guinea pig I highly recommend. For a rat - DO NOT BUY.
