Mausam movie directed by Gulzar is a dramatic love story loosely based on A.J. Cronin's novel- 'The Judas Tree'. The story of Mausam Hindi movie revolves around Dr. Amarnath Gill (Sanjeev Kumar) who falls in love with Chanda (Sharmila Tagore) during his visit to Darjeeling for his medical exams. Chanda is the daughter of Harihar Thapa (Om Shivpuri), a local healer. Chanda and Amarnath get and when he is called back he never returns back to Chanda, failing to keep his promise. After 25 years, he returns to Darjeeling and when he enquires casually about Chanda and her her, he learns that Harihar passed away long back and Chanda was married to an old man. She was blessed with a baby girl and later on she turned insane and died. The twists and turns in the film gain momentum when Amarnath finds Chanda's daughter Kajli who completely resembles her mother. He discovers that Kajli was molested by Chanda's brother-in-law and later ended up in prostitution.
