Baby Sign Language Official Reference Dictionary Paperback – November 10, 2011

We have three kids and used this book all along the way. It made the preverbal stage so much easier. Just imagine how many meltdowns can be avoided when your little one can ask for water or milk at meal time?!?!? Plus it's just fun to see how they think. For example, we saw an otter on a hike and my oldest signed"water" "mouse" to describe what she was seeing. She was 18 months old. Now the kids are older and we use the signs as gentle reminders like signing "please" to remind them to use manners at grandparents house or sign "shoes" for when it's time to go. Can't recommend baby sign language enough and this books is easy to learn with illustrations that children can also find engaging.

Pictures are large and easy to understand. Like the other reviewers mentioned, there aren't detailed explanations on how the moves work for some signs but that doesn't bother me much. I found the books with loads of explanations means loads of reading and sometimes I just want to know the sign so I can show my lil guy. It serves wonderfully as a comprehensive reference/dictionary styled guide to the various baby signs. I leave it on the kitchen counter and access it daily. When I do come across a sign that is perhaps unclear, I just google it and bam! I know what the picture is trying to explain. If you've done your preliminary reading about baby signing and want a good collection of signs to reference, this alphabetized guide would work for you!

This was such a great book for so much cheaper then the original website of it but unfortunately I didn't use it very much..I'm so visual that I didn't use it as much and couldn't make out the signs very well..I have to see it live so I used YouTube a lot to look up signs but it was a great book, lots of signs..my son has speech delay so signing helped me

This is a great reference for learning signs with a toddler. Most of the images are very clear and easy to interpret the signs from, there has only been a few I had to look up online. Im giving this 4 stars, because I feel there are a few words that seem fairly common that are not included. There are a few free apps that let you look up signs, but if you are like me and find it easier and quicker to grab a book, then I recommend this dictionary.

This is a great starter for sign language. It does not teach "sentence structure" in ASL, but rather common nouns, verbs, and adjectives to get started. Most of the signs are actual ASL signs and a few have been adapted for little hands to sign easier. It's a fantastic resource, and helps out a lot with the website!

Great beginners’ manual with good directions for self-directed learning.

I bought this for a friend who has a 16 month old. She has already taught her a few signs but wanted to do more. She loves the book.

This book is easy to navigate and so far has all of the signs I had been looking to teach my daughter. Much more than just the basic stuff! If you are not familiar with signing, some of the pictures can be confusing. I think basic knowledge of signs is helpful. I do wish there was a little written explanation of each sign, rather than just the pictures. Overall I am happy with this purchase.
