School Zone Math Basics 6 Workbook: 64 Pages, 6th Grade, Powers & Exponents, Order of Operations, Fractions, Estimating, Ages 11-12 (I Know It! Book Series) Review: Great review book with easy to understand examples. - I bought this book to use as a review during the summer months when school was out. I found it easy to use due to the clear instructions and examples given before each topic. It had a good amount of problems to work but not to many that it was overwhelming to my kiddos. The answer key in the back was also a definite plus! Review: Instructions on every page! - Most other workbooks just looked like pages of problems. And so many that it's overwhelming for kids to pick up. This book explains exactly how they want you to do it at the top. This is enough for motivated kids to do it on their own, or parents to quickly understand the point and steps of the lesson. The lessons are short, but with the perfect amount of practice without being overwhelming. There are A LOT of topics in this book. It's laid out in logic order. The first section is all fractions, which I think will end up being the hardest section for my student. But it's broken up by part so she's tacked most of it with ease. I know it was the hardest topic for me! There are 60 pages to work on, and one per day is very reasonable. So 2 months at 7 days a week, or 3 months at 5 days per week. It contains (counts are approximate) An answer key Fractions - 14 pages of adding, comparing, subtracting, multiplying, dividing. Going from mixed to improper. Percents & fractions, ratios, and decimals - 8 pages Decimal math - 6 pages of adding, comparing, subtracting, multiplying, dividing. GCF - 1 page Exponents - 1 page Beginning equations and algebra - lots of pages, including the properties and OoO Estimation and rounding Geometry - area, surface area, volume - 4 pages Probability - 1 page Negative numbers, number line and x-y grid- 9 pages, including The pages can be torn out on the perforation. We are punching holes and putting in a binder as we finish. What I would change: 1. I wish there was a refresher section on simplifying fractions, at the beginning,, since many skills are built on that. I'm going to move the GCF page up to help with this. 2. I wish each problem had more room to work. If I need to find a common denominator before adding fractions, I need PLENTY of room to write like x3=12/x3=15 one one side and x7=7/x7=14 on the other. kids HATE copying fractions to a blank sheet, so providing room to do all the scrunching in of steps would be amazing. That way we can see the process is correct - not just the answer. Definitely recommend

Really good coverage of math. Explains things very well, especially as I try to remember how to do things and definitions to help explain to my kids. Tear out pages are nice.

math to the point!
Sixth grade math is actually quite straightforward and this Math Basics book kept it plain and simple! On a large whiteboard, I "teach" a lesson with the examples given on the page and then my daughter works through each problem (also on the whiteboard, as there is not space in the book for showing work). In my opinion, this is not a book for kids to work through on their own. There are opportunities for teaching the lesson to your child, and then your child getting the opportunity to practice the skill. We work through one page a day and it's enough to grasp the skills without overdoing it (as learners will see these skills again in the next math level - spiral learning!) All answers are provided in the back of the book. I homeschool both of my kids (and have taught public school for 12 years previous) and have tried a few different math programs (Go Math, Math Expressions, Singapore). We end up throwing out many of the pages due to redundancy or overcomplicating a skills. Really happy with Math basics and will keep using the other levels for my younger kids as well.

Great 6th grade math workbook
This is the perfect summer book for transitioning grades. This is going to help my almost 6th grader so much with the coming school year. Highly recommend she learned so much!

these books are easy to understand
I have all of the School Zone math workbooks from Grade K through 6th, including the Fractions and Math Puzzles. For any child who needs brushing up on math, particularly during the summer, or extra help understanding a concept that was taught too quickly in a classroom, these books are easy to understand. As a homeschooling mom of a very "visual" learner, the color pages and fun examples make math less of a chore, and the workbooks can stand alone, unlike some workbooks where they are meant to be a worksheet to accompany a lesson from a textbook or other. These workbooks can be given to a child to do on their own, as the instructions are at the top of each page and an example. I have also found, while grading the work, that the answer key is predominantly correct. I have only found a few instances where the answer key is wrong, and it was only one answer or an entire row of answers was missing. Obviously, at this level, I am able to determine the correct answer myself.
