The Quiltmaker's Gift

A beautiful message to bring kindness and selflessness to the world.
The Quiltmaker's Gift was my daughter's favorite book so I recently bought two copies as gifts for her teachers who are expecting. I was reminded of why this book is so special. The quilt maker is a strong, fearless, and insightful women who helps the selfish king learn the values of compassion and selflessness. Through beautiful illustrations, the story vividly shows readers of all ages the power of standing up for one's principles and the hidden rewards of giving and caring about others.

A wonderful book, beautiful and rich in every way.
One of the favorite books in our house for our 4 year old. She is now able to follow longer stories and this seems to be just the right length for her. A chance for much more detail and discovery that shorter books written more for toddlers. Amazing illustrations, so much color and detail. There is so much to look at and discover on each page. The overall message about the joy of giving to others in need and not holding onto possessions just for the sake of having things is perfectly written about. The book has prompted may questions from my daughter (4) about giving, those less fortunate, homelessness and charity. She even decided to donate some of her saved change to a local animal shelter since she "didn't need it all". A great way to introduce those type of topics/discussions to younger children without being overly sad or heavy. A must for any family library.

Sweet and Warm and Sincere
The story of The Quiltmaker's Gift stands as one of my favorite stories which touches my heart gently, deeply, simply, truthfully - it's better to give than to receive. Beautiful, colorful, fanciful drawings let me enjoy something new each time I look at this book to read the story again. I was happy to find it downloadable on Amazon so I could sync it to my PC and use it on the "big screen" for classroom Read To Kids Day activity.

The turning of a page is fond with anticipation and wonder...
This is a simple story about the joy of giving. Not unlike stories told by another storyteller a long time ago except he was a fisherman instead of a quilt maker. The story is simply told so that a child can understand it and be held spellbound by the luscious illustrations on every page. The turning of a page is done with much anticipation and wonder and each page is a story in of itself...as is the King’s quilt. The story of his journey and realization.

Brought me back to my childhood
Definitely a beautifuly written and drawn book. I bought it because it popped into my head and I wanted to see if it still held up. This is a book that impacted me as a child as I still vividly remembered the story line and art. I was happy to see it still held up. Would recommend for little kids and adults actually

Wonderful book.
I love this book. I read it to my grandkids. The story is wonderful and the illustrations are colorful and perfectly go with the story being read. The birds with sweaters- so cute. I bought theses books as gifts especially for quilting grandmothers. The rich young ruler in the Bible can be incorporated into discussion.

AMAZING story that hits the true meaning of happiness on the head!
When I received this book as a gift for my 3 year old son 15 years ago, I found a book that I myself will continue to read and re-read, in that it brought me a sense of philosophical simplicity and honesty that no other "children's book" had ever done. From the glorious imagery to the fantastic illustrations, the story truly embodies what I wanted to convey to my children...what is really important in life. That was 15 years ago, and I have bought this book numerous times for friends who have children, who then tell me what a find the book was. Oh, have I mentioned I have read it myself over and over again? One-of-a-kind. My favorite children's book ever!!

Not Just for Children - A Gift for the Giver in Your Life
I'm not surprised to find this book listed as a Children's Book - who else is supposed to enjoy beautiful illustrated fables? The answer, of course, is the grown-up who reads it aloud. The detailed illustrations in this book will fascinate the fortunate child who hears the tale. The fortunate adult reader and the child will enjoy following this story about an unhappy king, laden with "things" he thought would make him happy.A classic consumer, he "gets" more and more - his closets and rooms are burdened with beautiful treasures that bring him little joy. He thinks the only thing he doesn't have - one of the quiltmaker's quilts - will bring him that elusive happiness. But she only gives to the poor - despite his threats and angry attempts to show her who has the power - she will not give him a quilt. She tells him how he can get that quilt - the answer of course is simple, once he figures it out.A wonderful gift for that person you know who always gives (s/he might like reading it to children or grandchildren) or the quilt-lover on your list. The colorful quilt patterns shown and named inside the front and back covers, and inside the dustjacket(! ) are fantastic.Like "Old Turtle," this is a beautifully illustrated book with rich layers to be enjoyed by children and adults, year after year.
