Can i convert/connect a digital speaker on this box and extract the audio to the arc on my smart tv?
Is there a way to default the audio to 2 channel, when using the optical output (toslink or coaxial)? Or is the only way to use an analog connection?
What's the 'Use case'. I'm baffled
Is the output 3.5mm Jack ? And will the sound come out of here when hdmi passes through ?

Does the job.

Does what it is supposed to do - gives you an audio line out which is extracted from the hdmi in.

Great sound for the money. Not tested for picture.

I got this extractor to use with Chromecast in order to play Internet radio on old hifi without Internet capabilities.I did not use it for video, hence no rating for picture quality. At the price, the sound is great. On 350 quid Denon all in one system it sounds obviously worse than CD but not by as much as price difference would suggest. It is much smaller than you would guess from website picture. It has got both optical and coax digital out.Via my Chord DAC on my main hifi system it sounds even better but clearly my friend streamer is superior. But at 30 times the price it hardly surprising. So as a cheap way of adding Internet radio to old hifi it works brilliantly.I still do not understand why Amazon or other big brands can not produce 50 quid box which would combine functionality of Wi-Fi receiver and audio extractor.

Sturdy build

The actual unit is small but heavy so feels professional and well built. Anyway, it works perfectly for extracting 5.1 sound from a Firestick to an amp. I've dropped a star as the 5.1 output - surely the main reason most people buy this - is not the default option, and has to be selected every time. This makes it impossible to hide behind TV cabinet. I've can't think of a reason why 2.0 CH should be the default option.

Was exactly what I needed.

I needed a way for my generic computer speakers to be used on my many HDMI devices so I could actually hear the sound coming from them. The monitor headphone jack was, low quality, and required me to mess about plugging and unplugging HDMI cables to hear any sounds. This little contraption used in tandem with a HDMI input splitter solved everything. Sure there maybe a more elegant way of getting round my little problem, but this worked and was well priced.

Broke after six months

Product worked fine but broke after about six months and had to replace itUPDATEReplaced with another one which was defective straight out of the box. Pointless.

So why 3 Stars?

Great piece of kit: cheap (bought it at £19.99), tiny, and works… most of the time. So why 3 stars?Knock one star because this thing gets HOT. Let’s be honest: this will be on all the time as it is a thing that can forget once installed. There’s no off button, and it’s driven by USB. Great. But it gets hot, and hot enough to go “That’s actually really hot!”.Knock one more star due to it starting to stop working and flash all lights oddly. I believe this is just a matter of time. I have to reach around and unplug it, wait 30 seconds, and then plug it back in again. It usually stops working prior to usage, but it has twice stopped working during usage. So what do I use this for? Simple: because the Amazon 4K TV only supports one headset, and (when headset is connected along with a number of Samsung sound bars), it drops the sound connection meaning that the sound bar turns off: “you’ve no music going through, so I will turn off to save power”. This little device stops that from happening and allows my Bluetooth transceiver to pull audio off the HDMI cable without letting the Amazon 4K TV knowing. Works a treat… when fully working.Cost price: amazingWorks for what I need it to do: absolutelyAm I comfortable having it on all the time and working: not really

Bought for PS5

I have the Steel Series Arctic Wireless Pro headset which I use for both PC and PS4. I had the usb plugged into the PC and the optical cable in the PS4 so all I had to do was press the input button to swap between the 2, but with the PS5 not having an optical port, I had to start switching cables, which was a faff on, plus the unit would forget my mixamp settings everytime I unplugged it. I know this unit isn’t designed for games consoles so it’s not ideal as it only does up to 4K and 30fps but my gaming monitor is 1440p so my PS5 will only output 1080p. This unit will do 1080p 60fps so that’s fine. It all works as it should and the surround sound works fine in my headphones too. Volume is now very loud again, because plugging my headset into the PS5 directly via USB resulted in low sound and quality not as good. Very happy overall.

Excellent audio extraction from HDMI; 24/192 max

Delighted with this gizmo. I wanted to listen to the Amazon Music HD stream which was only available from a newer Fire TV stick (2020 edition), with no optical or co-ax digital output for a DAC->HiFi. This audio extractor is 24/192 capable, allowing the highest quality PCM stream to be extracted for feeding an external DAC and speakers.Sound is immeasurably better than the 16/48 I was getting from my Amazon Fire TV Gen 1 (with optical output). Obviously you need a HD music subscription to fully benefit.=============Update Apr 21:Dropped a star as one day it decided to only present EDID information that it was capable of 48kHz [see picture 3] (as opposed to 192kHz [see picture 1]) that it could do before. Not sure why, have powered down, powered up, updated the Amazon Fire TV stick to no avail.===========Update May 21Back to 5 stars again!Error on my part meant that I limited the audio output of the Fire TV 3rd Gen to 48kHz (Display&Sounds>Audio>Surround Sound choices: Choose “Best Available” instead of "Always PCM". The former allows 192kHz playback, the latter hard caps the Fire TV to limit its output to 48kHz max).
