NICE PICS, BUT NEEDS WAY MORE DETAIL
This book is a good general reference but does not provide the level of detail that you really need to build an engine properly. For instance if you read the section on piston rings it doesn't talk about how to gap them (not just gap calls, but how to grind properly, etc.) or how important the finer details of sizing gap on first, second and oil rings really is....which is one of the most important details when building up an engine. First ring gap is calc'd based on engine use case, and the second ring should be gapped larger than the first. The first oil ring needs to be gapped at least as large as the second ring based on current conventional wisdom. Lots of pics, and a good reference though.

Excellent book
If you work on or do mods on your LSx engine, then this book is a must-have, regardless of whether you're a raw novice, a seasoned pro, or a tech who works on these engines for a living. The book has substantial content fitted into the standard Motorbooks format/size, and contains many, many color pictures with detailed explanations and procedures that do not appear in the GM Service Manual. This book can be read either way: from cover to cover, or at random pages, or even backwards; it is layed out very well. The edge of the pages have a color coded section "tab" so you can quickly thumb to the section of interest. I can't put the book down, good job!!

Highly recommended by a picky gearhead
This book is awesome. The pictures are numerous and high-quality color. The substantive content is amazing; the book even contains a year-by-year, highly detailed spec sheet for every LS engine ever produced! The only substantive error I saw was an incorrect bore x stroke = displacement specification for a certain engine, and that error was easy to spot and was probably just a typo. Typos, mispellings and poor grammatical usage are my pet peeve in technical books of this kind. However, only a few of these are scattered throughout the book and I did not find them overly distracting. They did not detract from the excellent and understandable technical content.

Awesome book, incredibly detailed
I bought this book to help me build a monster LS2. When it first came in I sat at my desk for two hours reading everything. I have a bare block without any additional parts so every picture and detailed explanation is greatly needed. I like that they go over a few of the common aftermarket parts such as the Callies products and Eagle crankshafts and the difference in designs. I am using this book in conjunction with another similar book to rebuild this engine and I am fully confident I can get it done without any hiccups. It is also quite interesting to read for the enthusiast as well.
