Great VU Meter that does what it advertises.
I needed an easy to see visual indicator to assist in tuning in Morse Code and other Digital Modes on my ham radio. A conventional analog or digital meter was out of the question because they are too slow to react to fast changing tones. I took a chance and purchased this VU meter even though the specs are kind of vague. When it arrived, I was pleasantly surprised because the construction and soldering was first rate. But would it work?I hooked it to a 10 volt DC supply and attached the input leads to the speaker of a small transistor radio. I discovered that even at low volumes the meter was very sensitive to the sound. The lights would go all the way up to maximum without even having to turn up the volume very much. I will probably add some attenuation to the input leads in the final construction, but it's nice to know that the sensitivity is there if I would need it later.Overall, I am very pleased with this product. The lights are all bright green, and I mean BRIGHT. I may put a green filter in front to tone them down a bit. There are no red LEDs at all, but I didn't really care about that. There are a couple of tiny buttons on the board and I believe you can press them to give other modes of operation. I didn't try them yet because the default setting is already what I wanted. I am planning to place this is a case along with some sharp filters so I can use it to tune digital stations for maximum reception. The only way I could improve on this unit is if they would have used a rectangular bar graph LED instead. But at this price point I am quite happy with what I got and that it works as well as it does. I will be buying more of these units to use in different projects where I need a simple fast-acting indicator. One thing I would appreciate is some type of instructions on how the buttons work. I don't like pushing unlabeled buttons unless I know in advance what the expected result would be.

I got one with a poopie LED Will try again.
My friend got one, he had to return his because it didn't work, but the second one he got was great. So great that I decided to get one.It came in and I was excited... But mine was missing it's cable. My friend who got the exact same unit let me test it with his cable, and it looked great! But one of the LEDs is weak and sometimes doesn't come on at all.I am just returning it, and will likely pick it back up again at a later time. This would have just been another project for me anyway

Great product
This Phil meter is a very handy little device. It is designed to be viewed on its side and not vertical. The right channel is the top set of lights and the left channel is the bottom set of lights. I think they did this because there are at least eight different modes on how you can view the lights, which is why I think they are all green. There are at least eight different levels of brightness. These LEDs are very very bright so I have mine set on the lowest brightness. Switch to us for changing viewing modes, and switch one is for adjusting brightness.

Simple and useful.
Wanted a level meter, but don't need it enough to want to pay for a fancy one. This took only a few minutes to wire up to a stereo plug and a 9V battery, and it works great. Came with no instructions, but the connections are labelled on the circuit board, and I found more information easily by looking up the board name online. Took more time to find a nice plastic box to mount it in, than it took to figure out the board itself.

Works great - impressed with all the selectable modes, especially input sensitivity.
Wiring was a snap. I used it to diagnose an audio problem, and it led me right to the faulty cable.

Works great! Bells & Whistles, bright LEDs
Works great! Lots of "bells and whistles." Very bright LEDs. I almost want to add a filter over the LEDs.
