Q: Does the recorded message only play once? it appears that once it plays the message back, it's gone? is that correct? that is disappointing.

The same thing happens with ours too...you can only play it back once...very disappointing.

Q: The device lights up but there is no sound? I don’t see any volume buttons or on/off for sound?

There is sound. You can even record your voice and have it play back to you. Super neat toy. There is a button not a switch to turn on and off.

Q: Can you choose a color?

Yes, click on the choices below the photo on the listing. One says puppy and one does not. Puppy is blue and the one that doesn’t say puppy is pink.
