TIMEMORE Black Mirror Basic Plus Coffee Scale with Timer Digital Auto-Timing Barista Pour-Over Hand Drip V60 Brewing

I debated before buying these scales because I already have some from Hario. While the Hario does the job, it’s showing its age, the flat buttons provide no feedback when pressed, so you can start or stop the timer or weighing inadvertently and most annoying, the weighing display is slooooooow to respond.None of those drawbacks are present on the TIMEMORE Black Mirror Basic Plus. This is a review of the newer version which has a physical power switch on the side and raised timer and tare buttons on the upper face.The scales came well packaged, with clear instructions. The unit was fully charged. It came with a USB cable to recharge the battery, when required. I use my scales for about 6 minutes a day, and after a fortnight of use, the indicator still shows a full charge. I expect it will last weeks before requiring a charge, especially as I power it off between uses. It has a sleep mode, if you forget to switch it off.The unit is made from hard, matt black plastic and while feeling a little plasticky, it also feels solidly built, having a good heft to it. It comes with a flexible rubber mat on which to place your coffee jug etc. which helps protect the finish.The displays are bright, blue LEDs and are easy and clear to read. The weighing display is very fast and seemingly accurate. Compared to my previous scales, it’s feels lightening fast. There are a number of modes and options which you can set, by pressing the timer button.I use a V60 pour over. I set my scales to beep when I press the buttons, I like the feedback from the raised buttons. I use auto mode, which starts the timer automatically when you begin your pour over. You tare the scales, press the timer button once, it starts a 3 second countdown and when you’re ready, you start to pour your bloom and the timer begins.I was a little disconcerted during my first use, when I lifted off the filter holder for the final swirl as the timer stopped and began flashing. However this is a feature to show that weighing has been interrupted, and you simply press the timer button once to restart the weighing and timing. I’d rather it didn’t do this, but at least there is means to keep recording.It’s easy to clean and I have really enjoyed using it to make coffee. Compared to my previous scales, it feels much more modern and responsive.

I purchased these scales to help me develop my espresso making skills and am very happy with them. Firstly I tested the accuracy of the scales against a set of calibrated weight standards and my scales overread the weight by 0.5 - 1%. For example a 20g standard was displayed as 20.1g, 100g standard was 101g. The error was constent. More than adequate for most applications I think.Battery is rechargable from a USB port which is excellent and saves on batteries.Scales very easy to swich on, tare and read. Top surface is waterproof.Overall they are excellent.

These TIMEMORE scales seem quite decent. I really like the functionality and the precision. The price is decent compared to a similar but far more expensive model. I deducted a star because it's really annoying when it turns off after about three minutes if not used. I just don't drink espresso/coffee that fast! I couldn't see a 'Turn Off' function for the power/timer on the piece of paper (manual), but the option to set the turn off function (for example ten minutes of non-use) would be good. It's a minor annoyance, but it is something that could easily have been built in to the scale and prevent having to turn it on and tare the portafilter over and over again. If that option was provided I would have given it a five-star rating.

I really wanted good scales, independent reviewers seem to love these. I take my coffee seriously, although these are my first coffee specific ones.They feel premium. They measure to 0.1g, that’s important for coffee. The timer, tare and weighing all worked easily. They were really nice to use, also important. The display is clear. It’s in the eye of the beholder, but to me the scales are very sleek and expensive looking. Tip - They arrived totally discharged, I was worried they were duds! So you might need to plug them in first. They did charge up v quickly.

Good quality, reasonable priced coffee scale with timer. I’m using mainly for single dose espresso shots but good for pour overs. You can timer your shots starting with the first drop.No physical buttons, well protected from the splashes of water or coffee. It is also easy to clean.Overall is a good value for money. Well recommended.

The core flaw with this device is 'refresh rate' — how many times per second it updates the weight display. It's just too low. Even at a slow pour rate, this scale would jump over a whole gram because the display only updates a few times per second. This makes judging the right time to stop a shot of espresso difficult.It fits really nicely on my Sage/Breville Barista Express. USB charging is fine. The UI isn't super intuitive, but the instructions are clear enough (despite some "Engrish" phrases).The numbers on the display are really quite fuzzy and discoloured. It doesn't match the marketing image at all (which shows crystal clear numbers with a very consistent cool white colour).The built quality is mediocre. The springs are super soft and mushy. The plastic surface just feels cheap.The touch sensitivity is just inaccurate enough that I keep wondering whether I'm doing it wrong or whether it's the device. Then I remember that I've been using touch screens for about 10 years with no problems.Finally, this seller sent the white version when I purchased the black version.
