Good Book on Revelation and Old Testament prophecies but wrong explanation of the Church of Laodicea

This is a fine book concerning the future prophecies of the Old Testament and how Revelation brings order to the prophecies. My only criticism is that he is not correct concerning the Church of Laodicea concerning the explanation of who the hot, lukewarm and cold are. Dr Fruchtenbaum says the hot are truly saved believers. The cold are those who are not believers and do not claim to be believers and the lukewarm are those who do claim to believe in Jesus , but are not truly regenerate believers. This is not correct the Church of Laodicea as with all the other six churches are believers who have eternal life by faith alone in Christ alone. These letters are addressing believers and their works not their faith (if it is true or false faith). All seven letters contain the statement "I know your works" .there is no addressing a call to faith because all are addressed to actual believers. Back to the Church Laodicea the Hot are good believers the Cold are good believers and the Lukewarm are believers but they are the believers that Christ does not approve of their works.I will also add this book / Dr Fruchtenbaum has the best teaching on the sin of The blasphemy of the Holy Spirit.Excellent writeup about the Church of Laodicea can be found at faithalone.org search under Church of Laodiceaupdated review June 23 2015I am adding to my review after studying more on The Tribulation by another book i have recently read by Zane Hodges Power to make war. http://www.amazon.com/Power-Make-War-Zane-Hodges/dp/1879534010After reading the Hodges book (Power to make War) i believe Dr Fruchtenbaum is incorrect in his matching up of who the beast andanti-christ and the false prophet are. i will not go into great detail but basically Hodges states the King of the North (Book of Daniel) is or becomes the beast (out of the sea) after he is healed from the mortal wound he received. He is also the the little horn of Daniel 7 and the same person (man of sin) Paul writes about in 2 Thessalonians 2:3-4 compare this with Daniel 11:36 both verses speak about the same person. and The anti-christ is the false prophet (the beast out of the earth). Not the beast (of the sea) as Dr Fruchtenbaum states in his book. for further study/comparison of this a person will just have to get Hodges book Power to make war and compare what is written in both books, but. after reading, studying and comparing what both books are teaching, i believe Hodges is correct in placing who the beast, man of sin, false prophet, anit-christ are. I still believe though Dr Fruchtenbaum is correct on the place where Christ will return Bozrah (not the Mt of Olives) and that theanit-christ (false prophet) could be fathered (the seed) by satan and be the last nephilim (offspring of the "sons of God" and the "daughters of men" )

Detailed Rebuttal to Preterism and Covenant Theology!

This book is an exceptional doctrinal treatise on all things Eschatological! Fruchtenbaum provides very detailed, Scripturally-based exegesis, which in every way is a response/rebuttal to the Preterist and Covenant Theology positions.Though of course not everyone will agree with him, the truth of the matter lies in how individuals interpret Scripture and specifically prophecy from the start. Most Preterists and Covenant Theologians view the prophetic aspects of Scripture through the porthole of allegory. This seems to be their hard and fast rule as they approach it. This view stems from Romanism and specifically Augustine, who endeavored to move Christianity away from any and all Jewish roots. The tragedy is that the error he promulgated and which became the mainstay in Roman Catholicism, took over, to a very large extent, the church as it developed from the 3rd Century onward.Though Luther, Swingli, Calvin and others were successful in divorcing themselves from the error related to salvtion, virtually all other aspects of Romanism remained in tact, especially the allegorical view of the prophetic areas of Scripture.Fruchtenbaum goes directly to Scripture and provides quality exegesis that surpasses anything promoted by Preterists. Because he is not only Jewish and a believer, but also speaks and reads Hebrew, he is able to dig into the biblical text as many Gentile believers are unable to do so.In a nutshell, this book - Fruchtenbaum's doctoral thesis - is a masterful work in which the student of the Bible is constantly directed to the Scriptures, not a system set up by men and women. In doing so, he helps us to dig into the Bible as we might not have been able to do.Even if you do not agree with Fruchtenbaum's position, this book is extremely helpful in laying out the position that represents the literal view of Eschatology and because of that, is well worth adding to your library.

Perhaps the best on this subject!!!

In Footsteps of the Messiah, Arnold Fruchtenbaum has written perhaps the definitive commentary on end time theology. He has taken each section of scripture from both testaments dealing with the war of Ezekiel 38, the last week of Daniel (also known as the Tribulation period), Armageddon, and the millennial kingdom. He has then explained in detail how each prophet added to the complete picture of how things will be at the end of the age. You will be presented with important points from some of scripture's most obscure prophets, and have concepts explained that many, if not most, of us were not even aware of. Fruchtenbaum has woven the Old Testament scriptures in with the texts from Matthew 24, and other pertinent gospels and epistles, and placed all of this information into context inside the Revelation. To say that he has been exhaustive in this exercise would be to understate it. In addition to explaining scripture, Fruchtenabum gives an extensive lesson in hermeneutics (the art of interpreting scripture), and shows how reading the Bible in a literal sense is the only way to gain a correct understating of what God has to say on the subject. This is the only work I am aware of that compares favorably to Dwight Pentecost's Things to Come. The only criticism I have of this work is Fruchtenbaum's understanding of the place of the Jewish Remnant in the millennial kingdom. Because of the tremendous respect I have for Fruchtenbaum and his scholarship, this is an area in which I am content to agree to disagree, and I recommend this work to any one.

interesting

I liked the writing style, it was interesting, but not much about the future of Israel, and I felt the author lacked balance and displayed the tribe of Judah bias and ignored largely the rest of the nations.

Is this his "magnum opus"?

I have had this book in electronic form for some time, but only recently have I really got into this remarkable book. The beauty of this book is how it brings together much Old Testament detail in relation to the future that the book of Revelation speaks of. I aim to own everything that this writer has published. Totally indispensable! Don't miss his works "Israelology" and "Yeshua" (a commentary on the Jewish life of Jesus Christ), both of which I have and will be using for the rest of my life.

I have started this book and it is amazing the insight this man has to the future of those that love the Lord Jesus and is a warning to those who don't know him as their Lord and Saviour. The Christmas message at this time of year gives us all a chance to review what happens after death and this book lets us know and should be taken seriously by all. Jesus is returning to judge the living and the dead by how we have treated the cross of our Lord Jesus, have we accepted his gift of redeeming saving grace or turned our backs on the hope that comes through his death and brings those who seek him, he has promised will find him, and be bright into the resurrection life of the Son of God who loved us and gave himself for us, to give eternal life who love and trust him. Let this Christmas bring life to all who read the book and this message.

Wonderful book

This is an amazing comprehensive overview of the work and purpose of Jesus Christ, Messiah, in his first and second comings, with comprehensive biblical references and superb end-times analysis. So interesting and instructive about all those awkward scriptures that you have not been able to make sense of before, but Dr Fruchtenbaum answers with authority and clarity. Well worth having as a reference book and study guide.

Superb

This is the third one I have bought (for friends too). Arnold Fruchtenbaum superbly expounds the scriptures, extremely methodical and since he has a Jewish background he brings out the Hebrew texts. Especially meticulous eschatology set out in an easily-read format with charts and diagrams. I cannot recommend it highly enough. Every bible-believing Christian should have one of these.
