Thermo-Tec 14620 60" X 36" Heat and Sound Suppressor

I recently purchased a sound deadening mat and I am extremely satisfied with my purchase. The mat is made of high-quality materials that effectively reduce road noise and vibrations in my car. The mat is also very easy to install and it fits perfectly in my vehicle. It also helps to improve the overall acoustic environment of my car, making it more comfortable to listen to music or have conversations. The mat is also very durable and it will last for a long time. I appreciate that it's a eco-friendly and cost-effective way to improve the sound quality of my car and also it helps to insulate the car, which keeps it cooler in the summer and warmer in the winter. Overall, I highly recommend this sound deadening mat to anyone looking for a cost-effective and easy-to-use solution to improve the sound quality and comfort of their car.

I used this to replace the thick, sound deadening material that was OEM in the transmission tunnel. There was enough to cover all the way back to the end of the tranny and up the front firewall. This was great, it gave me a lot of room to reinstall the engine and transmission. It also looks a lot cleaner. Sounds quieter and the cabin runs cooler. I really like this product. Easy to install, forms well to all the bumps in the tunnel, bought tape to help seal the liner when I need to slit the material and mold to the tunnel. Six months later (after the rebuild) everything is still in place fine. I did a good job cleaning the metal to prep for the install, applied Thermo Tec 12005 adhesive, and used a roller to press the material against the metal. It should hold up if you prep correctly.

I have used another, much more expensive, brand of sticky-backed rubber as sound deadening material. The price for this product is consistently below other products offering the same or similar sound deadening properties. Regarding application, the product's adherence strength is proportional to the rubber's temperature. Thus, you could use a heat gun during application or simply let the product sit in the sun for 5 to 10 minutes just before installing the product. The later option makes it more difficult to work with, but if you only remove the wax paper over the sticky material as you move through installation, it reduces the difficulty and frees up a hand. As mentioned above, this product is priced below the average price of sound deadening material; thus, the heat shield is a bonus. Nevertheless, since Thermo-Tec pushes the heat aluminum heat shield, it's part of the product to review. I have noticed a modest decrease in both direct and indirect heat. Thus, no complaints there. However, I gave the product 4 stars because Thermo-Tec does not give, for instance, examples of the estimated heat decrease in typical installation scenarios. Rather, the packaging merely states that it "protects from radiant heat" on the packaging. Failing to provide more specific and meaningful information concerns me because I, at least, like making purchasing decisions on facts, not supposition. Caveat emptor. Moreover, Thermo-Tec provides this type of information for some of its other heat resistant products. Why not this one? Thus, I would recommend the product simply on the sound deadening properties, but I do not like the vague marketing approach of Thermo-Tec.

I used this on my Corvair Corsa that has the mid engine conversion. I have a firewall right in back of my seat and it would get very warm once the car got up to temp. I applied this to the aluminum/fiberglass firewall and it works very well in both sound deadening and temperature reduction. You will notice a strong smell when you first take it out of the package and I would recommend unrolling it and setting it in the sun or a warm place to soften it up if you want to apply it onto contoured surfaces. Give it a couple days and the smell is pretty much gone. If you are building a performance car beware that this will add weight to your ride. Comfort and performance rarely go hand in hand but saving my hearing and not roasting while driving was well worth it. For the price this is hard to beat and I would rate this 5 stars for value and ease of installation.

I applied this insulation to both sides of the plywood engine cover. The diesel engine noise is significantly reduced. And there is almost no heat gain. Before adding the insulation, once we arrived at our destination, it would take several hours of AC to cool down the bedroom - not anymore. The material and adhesive are quite durable - the insulation applied to the bottom (facing the engine) has shown no deterioration from the heat exposure - no sag, no discoloration - after nearly 6,000 miles. I had purchased enough to do the bottom, but was able to cover nearly the entire top with the leftover pieces. Great product!

This made a HUGE difference in cutting down the noise in our Redhawk 31F Class C. The hardest part of the installation process was removing all of the stuff from the cab to get to the chassis in order to apply the material. The application process itself was pretty straightforward and easy. With how thin this stuff is, you wouldn't expect it to make such a big difference, but it does! It's well worth the time and effort.

I could see this as being useful for a lot of different projects; However I needed it for a boat engine compartment where all the old insulation was falling off. This product is on the pricey side, but I'm glad I went with it because the quality is top notch. The adhesive is very very sticky, almost like tar finish. Once you put it on and apply pressure, it isn't going anywhere - and I mean that so watch out where you put it! I did have difficulty getting it to conform to the shapes I need for the compartment, simply because of the thickness and awkwardness of the product, so the finished product had some wrinkles and splices; not a bid deal since no one sees it. Overall, if you need a strong product to block heat or sound, this should be at the top of the list.

Do not buy for anything car related. I used it as a hood insulator and it fell apart in a basically stock car. Should be good for other things outside the engine bay. I was issued a refund.
