Literally an eraser for rust—essential for cast iron owners!
If you own cast iron, you know that despite your best efforts, a little surface rust eventually happens—whether someone left it in the sink or you didn't dry it quite enough after a wash. I’ve used steel wool in the past, but the Lodge Rust Eraser is much easier to control and way less messy. Why it works: • Simple to Use: It’s made of silicon carbide and rubber, and it works exactly like a pencil eraser. You just rub it over the dry rust spots, and they disappear into a fine powder. • Precision: The rectangular shape and sharp corners make it easy to get into the tight edges of a skillet or the grooves of a grill pan where rust likes to hide. • Versatile: While it's marketed for Lodge pans, I've used it to touch up kitchen knives and workshop tools with great results. Things to watch out for: • Re-seasoning Required: Because this is an abrasive, it will take the rust down to the bare iron. You must re-oil and season the spot (or the whole pan) immediately after using it to prevent the rust from coming right back. • Cold Use Only: Don’t try to use this while the pan is still hot from the stove; let it cool completely first. • It Disintegrates: Just like a regular eraser, it wears down as you use it. If you have a massive restoration project (like a crusty barn find), you might go through a good chunk of the bar. Final Verdict: For under $10, it's a "must-have" for your kitchen drawer. It saves so much time compared to a full strip-and-restore. It’s perfect for those cosmetic touch-ups that keep your heirlooms looking new.

Works great for removing rust with no damage to cast iron
I acquired a neglected cast iron pan that had questionable seasoning and rust spots on the inside and out. This little rust eraser took it off with minimal effort and once I re-seasoned the inside, the pan looked new. Great product!

Worked almost magically
I left my cast iron in water for too long so it got rusty. This eraser saved it. The first photo is where I started and the second photo is me cooking in it the next day. Took a few hours to get all the rust off, but it was worth it. I then reseasoned it in the oven and it was good to go.

It works for light jobs
It works for light jobs where you screwed up and didn't dry your CI skillet immediately. But for 40+ year rust from a yard sale/thrift shop pull your grinder out.

Works GREAT!! The Perfect Tool for De-Rusting Cast Iron.
AFTER spending 45 minutes cleaning up my rusty Tuscan grill with a wire wheel on an angle grinder I was reviewing how to re-season cast iron on the lodge website and I saw this. Sounded useful, so I bought one: it's an incredible tool! I could have cleaned the grill faster with this!! (And a whole lot safer and quieter!). I also touched up the lid of one of my Lodge Dutch oven. Quick and easy, like erasing pencil with a rubber eraser, or using a pumice stone on a swimming pool. Yes, it is consumed slowly, but not that quickly; it appears to be a hard rubber bar containing an abrasive. After removing surface rust, the iron appears all fresh and new, ready for re-seasoning as indicated. My hobby is metalworking, and I have spent many hours de-rusting iron and steel over the years, using everything from phosphoric acid to power tools, and for a small job (like a pot or grill) this is just the ticket! So easy to use, just rub it on the metal! This is absolutely a five-star product!

Easy to use and works
I used this to clean my 10 inch skillet, and it did a great job! It does still take some elbow grease, and it’s a little difficult to get around a raised edge and inside the logo (don’t know if steel wool would be easier or not), but I do like it’s comfortable to hold and easy on my hands. I got the whole skillet clean in only 30 minutes. I used basically the entire letter E from the block, but I’m sure that will vary based on how bad the rust is. I did have to reseason the pan afterwards, but it came out of the oven looking almost brand new!

Works like magic
Had two quite rusted cast iron pans and thought I’d give the Lodge Rust Eraser a chance. I’m impressed with its ability to remove the rust. The pans have been rescued and look to have decades of life yet to give.

Work but doesn’t work Miracles
I tried this out as soon as I got it. I searched. YouTube for video demos and found one. I followed his directions and found it works best on very light rust (called ‘flash rust’) and not so well on moderately or heavily rusted surfaces. It’s similar to an eraser in that it leaves behind gritty stuff you’ll need to sipe out before using the pan. I dumped out what I could and wiped out the rest with a paper towel with avocado oil on it. After I got it all out, I heated the pan to try to re-season it and it was nicely black again. This product is most suited to small projects without a lot of surface area. It takes a little elbow grease but it’s not hard to use. It wears down pretty quickly with use so you’ll want to do small areas at a time.
