"Gary Cooper is wonderful" (Los Angeles Herald-Examiner) alongside Andrea Leeds and screen legend David Niven in this epic-scale thriller that delivers "excellent action scenes (Leonard Maltin) and is "exciting as all hell" (New York World-Telegram). In the wake of the Spanish-American war, military doctor Bill Canavan (Cooper) arrives at a war-torn Filipino outpost. Infected with cholera and under attack from a vicious local Moro chieftain, the troops are terrified and their commanding officer has all but given up hope. Outnumbered and out of supplies, Canavan decides to trade his scalpel for a rifle and rally the few remaining troops into one last stand before the outpost and everyone inside become just another footnote in history!

Video-The Real Glory
A good rendition of a film I saw as a child many years ago. My copy was pretty clear with good sound considering when the film was made. The DVD was delivered well packaged and quite speedily.

Movie sucked - but the quality of the disc is excellent
The product quality is excellent. It's not the manufacturer or provider's fault that the movie stank after the first 12 minutes or so. It's proof that Gary Cooper could indeed make a bad movie!

Exciting older movie
Fast moving and exciting movie about a group of junior officers attempting to help a village in the Philippines deal with disease and Moro gurrillas. Gary Cooper is a medical doctor but he also fights in combat. A young David Niven is his friend as is an equally young Broderick Crawford. Their commanding officer is killed by a Moro assassin who rushes him with a machete and keeps coming even after he has been shot with a .38 caliber pistol. This is an actual battle tactic of the Moros who often used drugs to deaden the pain of being shot. Small wonder that US Army officers began to favor the .45 caliber pistol which had enough stopping power to address this problem. For a 1939 movie, this film does an excellent job of keeping you on the edge of your seat.

Good story about another forgotten war
Good story about another forgotten war. What isn't mentioned is that the Moros are Muslims, and they're causing trouble today.

If you enjoy old john Wayne war movies, you will certainly like this movie.
Good movie since it was produced in Hollywood before they turned politically correct.
