Buy the original!
My daughter asked for nothing else for Christmas except this nugget ice maker. It is higher $ than what we usually spend on the kids for Christmas, but since we have been buying bagged ice multiple times weekly, we felt we could justify it at the Black Friday price. We did not buy the water tank for the side, and we probably will not buy it as an add on. There was a bit of a learning curve when we first set it up as the directions are very basic. It will only make ice until the tray is full, so at that point we dump the ice into freezer bags and refill the water. I cannot see how an additional water tank would be necessary except maybe at a party where people are using the ice right out of the bucket. People have commented that when you transfer the ice to the freezer it freezes solid. We put it in freezer bags, and when we take it out and drop it on the counter once, it immediately breaks into perfect nuggets, so that is not a problem. we have been making ice ahead of time so we always have it when the kids need to fill a hydro flask for practice. This is one of our best purchases to date. My daughter was so excited when we surprised her! We had purchased an off brand machine as a backup, but once we saw this go on sale, we immediately returned it for the original. Thanks, Amazon!

Best countertop Ice Maker
Everyone in the house loves the size and style of this ice maker as well as the ice it makes. The ice keeps drink perfectly cold for a long time and the enjoyable crunch keeps you going back for more. The ice maker starts out with 2 liters of water and makes a full bin of ice. As you need it, it continues to monitor how full the bin is and makes more when necessary. What's not used, slowly melts back into the reservoir and remade into ice. I thought that the unused ice would melt into a big block if I don't use it but in reality, it stays in the perfect little shape until I need it. The ice bin is easy to access and pouring more water in is easy as well. I didn't get the extra water tank and might later but so far, it's easy to keep up with from a pitcher. When the compressor comes on, you know your ice is being made. It's not too loud though, even with it in the open kitchen. All-in-all, I am very happy with this purchase and highly recommend it.

This machine is dangerously flawed. Three units - all bad.
The media could not be loaded. In less than two months I have gone through three of theses machines. They all did the exact same thing. Every few hours it would start making an obscenely loud hammering noise for anywhere from 15 to 45 minutes. When the first one did it, I ordered a replacement. While waiting for the replacement, it stopped making the noise and seemed to work perfectly. I received the replacement and immediately cleaned it and got it running. The next day it started making the same noise. The first one was still behaving, so I sent back the replacement. A few days after sending it back, the first one became unresponsive. It would turn on, cycle the water and then shut off. It had only been running for a few weeks and I had only used bottled water in it, so it was NOT due to build-up. I ordered a third one and set it up yesterday. It immediately started with the same hammering noise every few hours, but I let it run to see if it would work itself out. Today it started making the noise and this time it was worse. I took the video and right afterwards it began to smell like it was burning. I immediately unplugged it and had to open the window. The right side was too hot to touch. There is obviously a design flaw. I am so lucky I was home and near the machine because I’m certain it would have resulted in a fire. An hour after unplugging it I wanted to get it dried out for packaging. When I drained the hoses, the water was hot. I just cannot trust another one.Edit: After several months of not having my nugget ice, I saw the machine on sale for prime day and decided to try it once again. I only had it running for 3 weeks and the pump went out. I was past the 90 day Amazon warranty due to being out of town. working with GE was a nightmare. After several phone calls and emails with repetitive requests for the same information I had just provided, they said they only replaced machines with refurbished ones. Ok, no problem… except the one they sent me looked like the previous owners had it for a year. It was dented, scratched, and had layers of calcium deposits around the dispenser, it hadn’t even been cleaned! I contacted GE again and sent them pictures and said this was unacceptable. They agreed to send me a new one this time. I have been waiting for 2 months now for the replacement. They said they were back ordered, but what they were doing was filling Christmas orders first. I have been without a machine for 6 months now. They won’t refund my money. I even offered to pay the difference to get the new model that came out right after I bought mine hoping they’d worked out the problems in the updated model. Nope. So I am now still waiting for my 6th machine and will only have a partial warranty on it. This has been one of the most regrettable purchases I have ever made.

Best nugget ice maker ever!
The best ice maker I have ever used! It makes the perfect chewy nugget ice that won’t break your teeth! For someone who struggles with dehydration having this machine around to just eat the ice is a perfect solution. Sometimes it’s all I can get down. It’s interface is very easy to use and set up. You can even use the app, which I do all the time to control when to turn it on and off. It only takes 15-20 to start making a good portion of ice. The noise isn’t too bad. It is less loud than my dish washer and once you have enough ice you can turn it off.It doesn’t keep the ice cold itself but overnight there does tend to be some left over. It drips down in to the reservoir tank ready to use again! Just turn it on and go.It is a pricey machine but for those who have the money and love nugget ice I say go for it. I considered this an investment in my health and so far it has been.
