RUFFWEARRoamer Leash, Granite Gray, 7.3'-11'

I bought this leash after my large dog pulled me on to my stomach. He normally walks well and is trained but he’s also a puppy and took off suddenly after getting excited about some balls lying on the ground at the park. Next thing I knew I was on the ground. I stopped using a flexi leash after buying this bungee leash. I love the shock absorbing capability which protects both my dog’s spine and mine. I bought the longer leash since my dog was used to the freedom of a flexi. I love the short loop for traffic. I use it often. We use this leash many times a day and it’s holding up nicely. Ruffwear makes great products and I’ve used their life vests for years with my dogs. I was happy to see the leashes are made to the same standard of quality. Well worth the price since it’ll last a long while.

Best leash for trail running, hikes, or just gallivanting about areas where dogs are not limited to sidewalk widths. To me, these inspire confidence and control in impulsive pups (my opinion) who are still learning the rules. The allow escape routes for walking two pups if one happens to be over reactive when they see stranger dogs. It has the grab handle near the collar/harness so to allow fast intervention when needed. Compared the 12 yo Roamer to this new tri-color version and could not be more thrilled with the updates. You can see the bungee is woven much tighter, and while it's taken me time to get used to the extra spring this creates, my dog cannot "roam" too far from me due to this, and he is learning the limits more quickly than he has walking for weeks on the older, more relaxed/albeit also stretched out version.My star deduction is due to the clasp. Wish the clasp was a carabiner instead of this tiny little swivel clip. It seems easy to undo and in trying to connect the leash to BOTH the Ruffwaer Flagline Harness (check my review of that as well as to the Ruffwear Chain Reaction Martingale collar, it is a tight fit and I worry that when pulling hard, the overlapping metal could be easily opened. It is just not as secure as a carabiner. Would love if Ruffwear could customize mine with a swivel carabiner instead - which they may need to invent first.As a decades long Ruffwear believer, this company knows what type of gear is needed to keep dogs safe while adventuring with them. None of my items have ever failed and they seem to keep the best aspects and only update what will make the products better. Performance over profit. ? Perhaps. But pups over price any day. And that's what they bank on.

My dog is well behaved, loves to hike, and typically stays by my side or just behind me. My sister’s dog is neurotic and likes to chase cars as they drive by. This leash works so well for both of them. It gives the well behaved one the space to stop and sniff without the abrupt jolt on the leash because I kept walking. It lets the neurotic one freak out and bungee gently back after he’s tried to throw all 20lbs of his force at the speeding cars. The waistband loop is just long enough to fit my hips, and I’m a size 16, women’s. Because I’m tall though (5’ 11”), that means the final length of the leash isn’t super long. But it works for me hiking, just walking the neighborhood, out on the beach, etc.

Love the elastic part as it makes pulling / tugging less harsh. I love the loop grip close to the color for ultimate control. Love the clip as in salt water it does not rust or get clogged with sand. My favorite all-time leash,
