Acme Bishop Game Table in Black

First, when it arrived I was startled at how heavy the box was! This table is made of substantial stuff! Then, it’s super easy to put together. Screws on the bottom, screws on the top. Done.It’s beautiful. Love it!

Looks beautiful and is SO MUCH BETTER than earlier versions of this table. Board now is much lighter color that is easy on the eyes and contrast between the light and dark squares is excellent. Squares are still only 2 inches on all sides which may be an issue for those used to playing on 2 and 1/4 inch square chess boards. Table looks and feels sturdy and is much more solid and steady once it is assembled. Assembly is fairly easy and includes the Allen wrench to drive in the included 8 screws. Also used a 'threadlocker' fluid available at big box hardware stores or Amazon to insure that the screws did not loosen over time. All in all a great buy that will add class and functionality to any home. Highly Recommended!

This table is taller than I thought and a little high for a regular chair, but it is heavy and sturdy. Just make sure you measure height before buying chairs for it.

I'll make this short and sweet. Take a look at the photos I uploaded for the best visual representation of this chess table. To put it simply, it's gorgeous! In the words of my 16 year old son, "This is one classy chess table!" Mine came flawless with no scrapes, scratches or damage. It was also EASY to assemble, requiring only 8 total screws and the supplied Allen wrench. I did it by myself in about 7-10 minutes. For the price, I am extremely pleased.The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars is because when I tried lifting the table out of the box, the wood creaked on one of the top edges...almost as if it would separate from the table if I kept lifting it that way. I probably shouldn't have tried lifting it that way. (I'm referring to the edges surrounding the checkered chess board it self...the ones with the corners cut off at an angle in the photos. I was grabbing it by those thinner edges) So I grabbed it from the bottom instead. Let me be clear, there is no visual indication that the wood was about to break or come apart. However the sound of wood creaking was not one that gave me comfort. Once the table was assembled, I tried lifting the edge of the other three sides of the table, with no creaks. However when I tried lifting from the side where I heard the original creak, there it was again. So I decided I just won't lift it by the edges and the table will be fine. But I thought you should know about that one flaw.

The table is full table height with a drawer on each side and a spacious top to place captured pieces. Easy to slip knees under the table while playing. It was packed well for shipping and was easy to assemble (8 screws, 4 to attach the bottom and 4 to attach the top.). The table is heavy and thus sturdy - No rocking or shaking. The look is of fine furniture in spite of not being solid wood. The excellent quality is surprising for the price.The squares are 2” x 2”, which is a great size.Consider the platform base, which will likely get scratched from feet being placed on it by both players.

Nice piece of furniture but reason I give only 3 stars is that item was damaged. Box was slightly damaged but styrofoam was intact so I thought all was ok but when I finally unpacked table I noticed that the base of the table had 3 large indents. Also the table top had what looked like 2 paint stains on it. The indents looked “old” & the inner side of styrofoam closest to the actual table seemed as if it may have had water damage as it was a little “mushy”. I purchase quite a lot from amazon & this would be the first item that I’m disappointed with & would have returned without hesitation only that I was counting on this table as a surprise gift.

I was so disappointed! The box arrived in terrible shape, I opened one end, didn’t even bother taking anything out. I could see things rolling around and major damage. This table is pressed wood type material. And I knew that. For the price point I was okay with that. But they did such a lazy job packing it that a cheap table like that had no chance at all surviving a basic shipping experience.I really wanted this table! It was great for what it was had the company put in more money and effort to box up and ship it correctly!It was a hassle to return. I went and read reviews and saw this is a common problem. Don’t waste your money on this adorable table until they say they have improved their packaging because no matter how cute it is for a cheap price, if all you get is a damaged table and a hassle to return it’s not worth it. If they fixed this issue I would try to buy it again.
