Would this work for a 2 year old?

Yes it does, is adjustable I bought it for a trip to use it on my 4 year old that looks likes she's 7 and ended using it on my 2 year old too

what can I do if the key breaks or gets lost?

I never need to use the key. The outer case was enough to keep it on my toddlers belt. He liked the cute animal figure on the case so he liked to have it on his jeans belt.

Dear Customer You can contact us directly via email, but we are not sure if we can send it to Mexico. Because we have Amazon logistics responsible for sending the goods. You can consult Amazon's official customer service on the buyer page.
