So you want to drill a hole...

... and you're looking at this product wondering if it can help you do it. The answer is YES but you will need to buy some extra equipment.I had to drill a 2.75" hole through about 12" of VERY HARD brick and this thing did the trick. Here's what else you need to buy:* #16 SDS Plus (TE-C) to 1-1/4" M Core Bit to Drill Adapter by BLUEROCK Tool* Diablo 1/4 in. x 16 in. x 18 in. SDS-Plus 2-Cutter* BOSCH 11255VSR Bulldog Xtreme 8 Amp 1 Inch Corded Variable Speed SDS-Plus Concrete/Masonry Rotary HammerI know what you're thinking: can I get away with just a normal drill? Answer is NO. I tried a regular drill and a regular hammer drill but become extremely frustrated quickly. The long pilot bit is really critical for when you get stuck deep in the hole. Get the core bit back out and send the pilot bit through several times.Other important tips:* Use the hammer mode. I know it says all over this page not to do that but I couldn't make any progress with out it. Used hammer mode and everything was fine, drill bit is still in great shape.* Lots of water. I would drill 10 seconds, spray tons of water, then drill another 10 seconds and so on.* Drill lots of pilot holes. If you get stuck just drill a bunch more little holes and break out some of the pieces stuck in there.* Don't let brick build up inside the core bit. Always shake it out or pound it out before you collect too much which can cause the bit to get stuck.$300-$350 worth of equipment to drill holes is a bargain compared to what I was quoted.Have fun!

Excellent

Only used for 5, 8" deep holes in concrete, showed no wear at all.

Worked like a charm!

If using a standard drill, Make sure you have a big spray bottle of water. Every 15-20 seconds, pull out the bit, spray the hole, and repeat!

Drilled two holes and couldn't be happier

Worked like a champ. Drilled pretty quickly. I used a lot of water. Drilled right through brick and then 8" of concrete. Didn't hit any rebar so I can't really comment on that.

Worked amazing

Took about 20 minutes with breaks to go through brick, block a furring strip and drywall. About every minute I would dunk the bit into a bucket of water to keep it cool and lubed.

Slow drilling

First impression is it doesn't seem to have that many diamonds. It drilling head looks very smooth. Had to drill holes in Belgium block. The blocks were approximately 4-5 inches thick. Used a variable speed angle grinder on the lowest speed of 2500 rpm for the job. It took about 30-45 mins for the first hole, kept switching between slow and high speeds in between and kept slow pressure on the grinder. Trust me it was exhausting nothing like a piece of cake or hot knife cutting through butter. For the second hole, while drilling kept rotating the grinder in clockwise motion that probably helped. The 2nd hold was done in 20 mins. For both hole every 5 mins had to remove piece of the stone inside the bit.

Very Effective

I used this bit to drill a 2” hole through my foundation and it worked perfectly. I connected it to my SDS+ drill with an adapter, and kept the bit wet with a hose. I wasn’t sure this setup would work but I was pleasantly surprised and it was a lot cheaper than renting a drill rig or hiring out the job. Took about 15 minutes and the bit is none the worse for wear. Highly recommended!

no problem drilling through solid limestone

I'm planning on using some of the native limestone on my property to make a water feature that looks like a natural spring. I used this bit to bore through one that was about 8" thick and then chisel around it for practice before I work on the one I will install permanently. Driven with a Bosch SDS Plus hammer drill through a 5/8-11 arbor, I had no trouble going through it in 10-15 minutes. I did take it slow and kept a hose on it the whole time. You can see in the picture that the bit made a nice round hole, though it left a little of its red paint on the sides, easily removed. I did not see the very helpful idea of using bored-out wood as a guide, but I will probably try that. Also though, since the sides of the bit are smooth and wet, and since the bit has no "teeth" as such, you can simply use your hand to guide it. The 1½" bit I bought turned out to be a little oversized for 1" PVC, so I'm buying another one that's 1-3/8 for the final cut.

Muy buena compra

Pudimos hacer más de 5 perforaciones en concreto bastante fortificado. Siempre y cuando se utilize agua como agente enfriador y fuera de fricción. Cumplió con el cometido.

Good Value and Quality

I needed a 7/8 in. bit to core drill 3 in. concrete pavers for pool safety cover anchors. After a dozen holes drilled it is still in good shape. It took a while to get here (Canada) but was worth the wait.

Shipping Cost

The matrix is not as it is pictured. The cost to ship it. I ordered a 2-1/2" and automatically got billed for a 3". the price is good for what it is but the shipping undoes that. Hopefully it doesn't fall apart. Not happy with the shipping cost overall.
