Girl Online: Zoe Sugg: 1 (Girl Online, 1)

A good first novel, even if a ghost writer was involved.
First off I just want to say a few things that I knew about the whole ghost-writer scandal when I bought and read this book and in no way has this affected my view on this book. I only discovered Zoella while reading through a magazine that had an interview with her in, regarding her line of beauty products, I looked her up online and bam she was everywhere, I watched a few of her videos and I do like her and find her quite fun to watch, I'm also not shy of peeping onto her blog at times.I have been reading fellow reviews on here and mostly all the negative reviews seem to be about Zoella herself and what they think of her, instead of the book itself, which I find rather unfair,I understand that some people may feel ripped off and cheated after finding out she had a ghost-writer apparently write her book but quite frankly is this a surprise? personally I think people are thinking way to much into this, especially by saying she just stamped her own name on it without mentioning the ghost-writer, I don't look at it like at all, I think she is young and very intent on becoming a writer for YA and when someone does something new, they are always going to need some help and guidance , and I think that's all this lady has done, asked someone more experienced in this criteria to help her, that doesn't mean this helper, wrote the entire book, it just means she helped and directed her in the right direction when writing, she may have sat with her and changed things slightly and wrote a few chapters but doing all this with Zoella by her side and her agreement and permission that the novel was being told as Zoella wanted it to be, and onto the subject of this ghost-writers name not appearing on the book, how do we know she didn't request that? How do we know she didn't say " I really enjoyed helping you with this book. but don't worry about my name being on the cover, because I only helped you write it, I didn't create these characters and their setting's and the story. you did. I was just you're guidance? we don't, I just think it's unfair to judge this book on that. I have no doubt in my mind she had a lot of help along the way when writng this but I also have no doubt she also had a massive say and sense of direction when she was putting it all together and now this book has been written with help from a feloow auther she will take what she's learnt and wont need as much guidence when she writes her next book. Now onto the book itself.I'm in my twenties so this book most likely wasn't written for my age range (in fact I know it wasn't.) but I LOVE to read and because of this I do sometimes find myself reading YA, because some of them are actually really good and no one should pass up a book that seems interesting to them regardless of the age range. What attracted me to this book was the fact the main character suffers from anxiety and panic attacks, which I myself suffer from, have done for over 10 years so it appealed to me.I really liked this book, yes I'll admit it has it's flaws but not enough for me to not read it, I think at some points the chapters drag on slightly when there is no need for it, and characters backgrounds could have been explored more and some back stories explained in more depth and detail.but other than that I thought it was a really good first novel for Zoella and has no doubt benefited her greatly with it's success and I think that's pretty obvious and speaks for itself since a sequel will soon be released, which I will buy and read because I did enjoy this book regardless of all the facts stated above. So would recommend reading this with an open mind towards this young writer instead of judging it on who wrote it and who's name is or isn't on the cover.

A brilliant read!
This is the first product review I've ever posted on Amazon after being a loyal customer for several years. I'm a 24 year old male, and hence probably not within the expected demographic as a reader for this book, but felt I had to say something anyway.I've been following various YouTubers as a past-time for about a year now, and actually became a fan of the author, Zoella, by complete accident after seeing her featured in a challenge video with her brother, Joe Sugg (online alias ThatcherJoe), doing a silly Not With My Arms challenge, where she feeds her hands through the sleeves of his T-Shirt and helps him get ready for a night out.To this day, I don't watch any of the videos that garner Zoe most of her views and attention (hair, make-up tutorials and girly stuff in general) because I'm not really interested in that kind of thing, for obvious reasons. However, from what I've seen of her featured in challenge videos, video logs (Vlogs) either on her second channel (MoreZoella) or on her fellow friends channels, all of whom also make YouTube videos professionally, I've grown to like her and her brother for their creativity, which I think comes through in the writing style and highly detailed descriptive narrative. This brings me on to my main point for this review. This is the first book I've read that, despite so obviously aimed at teenage girls currently going through the same sort of emotions as the lead character, Penny, I still enjoyed it for what it was. I only bought the book because I was intrigued at how good a writer Zoe was, and I can safely say that it's a very good one! I'm also possibly one of her few subscribers that hasn't read her blog on her website that got her famous in the first place! It's actually the first romance novel I've ever read, so I'm unsure as to how "predictable" or "cliche" the story may seem to more well-read individuals, but I do appreciate a good story, in media as diverse as novels, to song lyrics, even to some modern video games. This definitely delivered on that front, and it's been years since I haven't been able to put a book down, hence why I've binge-read the book over the past few evenings - it only came out two days ago and I've finished it!To sum up, I believe the mark of a great writer is the ability to leave the reader in suspense at the end of every chapter, and that's what this book does. If you're keen on reading an addictive and heart-warming story that comes full circle (you'll have to read it all the way through to see what I mean), or if you're just a fan of "Zoella" and want to show your support, then this is the book for you. Five stars.

Fun
I'd had this book on my to read list for some time, I had no idea that the author was a vlogger until my daughter started asking for a copy too. I had no preconceptions hadn't heard about the ghost writer debacle before I'd read it so this is just a review of what I thought of the book.I found the first tenth hard work, the plot was slow but I guess that the story was being set but once I passed that point I couldn't put the book down. Penny is a walking disaster at points, I laughed so much at some of her antics in the story. Everyone has been in cringe worthy situations as kids (and adults) so it was easy to empathise with Penny.Penny is a normal 15 year old trying to survive school and life in general. The one thing that makes her stand out a little is that she blogs about things that happen in her life, the anonymous platform that enables her to share her teenage worries with the world and like minded followers. After a dramatic incident Penny finds herself in New York with her parents and her best friend Elliot. Staying in a magical hotel she comes across a hot guy playing a guitar and another adventure in her life begins. The ending was a great rollercoaster ride full of turmoil. I loved the story, the whole cast of characters had me smiling from the start. It's a great book aimed at youngsters but still appealing to the oldsters too. If you like gentle fun and romance then this is a good read for you.

Great book!
The book came in great condition, near perfect. I also love the story, it is very cliché but in the best way possible. I love the point of view of Penny she’s super loveable and endearing and definitely relatable and her relationship with all the characters around her is written really well I think. I really enjoyed this book! :)
