Q: How can I tell the length of the chain

They give you an option in cm for length, use a converter to change from cm to inches. So 51cm equates to roughly 20 inches

Q: How wide is the clasp end ?

Not as small as on a silver necklace but not that large. I would say its more of a woman's chain.

Q: Does the black finish chip off?

I have a gold one and wear it every day with my wedding ring on it. Well over a year and it hasn't tarnished. Still looks gold. I presume the black is manufactured the same way.
