TransformersGenerations Power of the Primes Deluxe Class Dinobot Slug

Slug is a great toy and holds true to the original G1 version. After purchasing Grimlock, Slug (I'm trying to catch myself from saying Slag) was our next option (as Snarl took a little while to be released) and he hasn't disappointed. He's a very sturdy toy. The triceratops fringe is solid and nicely designed. The legs are balanced. And the transformation is pretty straightforward. The only tip I would give is that when you're transforming into dinosaur mode, make sure you've properly pressed together the legs and aligned Slug's "belt" in the torso area. If not properly aligned, the legs will not remained tight-knit in dino mode, and that puts a bit of strain on the tail to hold everything together. If you have his belt lined up, you'll find that folding up the legs into the rear part of the dinosaur body will be easy as the rear end pops into place. Slug comes with the Dinobot, his character card, a piece of armor used to form the combiner, and a weapon. If the kiddo is happy, it must be a good toy.

Very solid toy. The coloring and the way it transforms are near identical (it’s more posible than the original) to it’s G1 counterpart. If you played with the original dinobots back in the 80s you’ll know how to transform this instantly, and if you haven’t it’s easy enough that you don’t need to read the instructions.Somehow I lucked out and got both Slug and Swoop for $15 each and they’re well worth it. What it doesn’t tell you is that they have the combiner gimmick so you can make Volcanus once all five dinobots are out. The Prime Armor is just the hand/foot add-on (like the Arialbots or Protectobots had) with an extra gimmick built in. Pretty sure you can put a headmaster in it instead of the intended prime thingy.

I bought it for my son for Christmas. He likes it a lot, but it is a smaller size toy. Some similar products go up to 30$, which I think is too excessive. Overall, I’m glad I bouhgt it, but size and price may be an issue.

Where to start? The design is fantastic, so amazingly reminiscent of the original “Slag” I have. The name change isn’t what’s important, it’s just how true the design is to the one I had as a kid. Now my son can enjoy a classic part of the Transformer legacy in a new light and I don’t have to worry about him breaking an antique.Now, some may whine and complain about the scale of this figure complaining that the Dinobots were so much bigger than the other Transformers. While this is true, it’s just not feasible when it comes to figures like this.Others may complain that the Dinobots are being introduced as combiners and that this wasn’t an feature of the characters in the old animated series. This is true, but the Dinobots have been combiners before in comic books, and let’s be honest, the idea of combining Dinobots is cool as heck.5/5 for me. Great design, lots of play to get out of this figure, and a nice trip down memory lane.

The Dinobots are a small, tight knit combat team. They are rowdy, arrogant, lowbrow, disobedient, and one of the most destructive forces in the Autobot army. Few Autobots do interact with them, or understand them, which has forced them to the fringe, but made them close. Fight one Dinobot and you face them all.Slug is most likely to live up to their bad reputation. He is surly, mean, nasty and very violent. He will fight any one, over anything and fight dirty. He dislikes Optimus Prime and will even mouth off to Grimlock.Slug feels like such a throwback to the 80's figure and it is great. He is very easy to transform into a triceratops and robot, and into an arm and leg of Volcanus. I like the articulation and the colors are classic. He has the same gun as Slag and it works for him because this is an Autobot that'll just shoot someone in the face or back when they are not looking.A great addition to the Autobots and a much needed Dinobot.

Though I wish these remakes of the G1 Dinobots were a little larger, I have to say that on the whole I am quite pleased with Slug (and the others). Their size is fine because they do combine to form Volcanicus. I can't wait for Sludge and Snarl to be released. The transforms are similar to the original G1 and the aesthetic on the whole is preserved. A few joints are stiff, so you have to be sure to read the manual to ensure you're moving a part that is meant to be moved (even if you're sure based on hinge presence, etc). Awesome and faithfully updated dinobot. Love him.

Slag [Slug] is a very faithful update of the only G1 Dinobot I never had as a kid. His ability to be combiner arm or leg is an added bonus that does not interfere with his primary purpose as a Triceratops who transforms into a robot. I like his rifle and wish he had a sword as well but Hasbro is working on a budget and chose to split the swords and guns between the four deluxe Dinobots. His Prime Armor fist is a significant improvement over the Combiner Wars Hand/Foot/Gun though I don't care for using it as chest armor. But it does work well has a shield.
