Deadwood - Ultimate Collection: Season 1-3 [DVD]

Box says (c) 2016 so this shouldn't have the audio issues that plagued the reviewers from 2014. The price is really good for all three seasons. That said, unfortunately only the region locked (and much more expensive) HBO-published US versions have any of the special features or episode audio commentaries. As someone who loves behind-the-scene stuff that's a big disappointment, but as this version is a good £40 cheaper I can also live with that. Really excited to finally check out the series.

I just bought this and can confirm that there's a slight audio sync issue in S01E04. It's very slight though and I haven't seen it in any other episode so far.The price on this box along with how much I live this series, made me feel that it's OK.But, I totally understand why some wouldn't.Seeing as I don't think I'd be able to get a better copy elsewhere and for such a good price, I stay happy for now.

An excellent series and I am looking forward too the film when it comes out, which carries on from the series. The picture quality is a bit variable at times and grain can be seen quite easily on occasion. A bit like playing a DVD on a 4K screen, just as I have found on the DVD box set of Boston Legal, which is just about watchable on a 4K TV.The lip sync issue other reviewers have reported in episode four of season one, DID NOT show up on my 4K OPPO 205 player. This does not mean that another player will play these discs with no problems however, so do check how they play on your own system and if there is an issue, send them back for a refund. If they play on a different machine ok, then the machine that shows a problem up may be picking-up on something in the discs that another machine doesn't.I once had a CD that played ok on a cheap Marantze player (about £100 I think it was) but my Meridian 24 bit 508 refused to play the track that had a big scratch on it and wouldn't even go past the problem to play the rest of the disc.. You would think it would have been the other way around but no, the expensive player couldn't cope with the damage on the disc surface. Go figure.It could be something similar happening with the Deadwood discs as certain players get upset but others don't. If all players play blu rays perfectly otherwise, then the fault could be said to be with the discs. But then, blu ray players are like computers at the end of the day and we all know how reliable computers are.Yeah right.It is sad to think that you buy these particular discs at your own peril, so be prepared to send them back is my advice.

First things first. I played the highly rumoured corrupt episode (disc one, episode 4), and there is no de syncing between picture, and sound at all. It may have been fixed, or maybe a problem with certain players.Now down to Brass tacks.Deadwood is an excellent series, which should, in my opinion, of had more than three seasons. Superb acting by olyphant, McShane, and Powers Booth to name a few, makes for superb watching.It is very raw viewing, indeed, it doesn't shy away from delivering in your face, Brutal violence, which can catch you off guard sometimes. But the West was, and Deadwood certainly was just that. So to dumb down the realism, would of been an error.It's no holds barred approach makes for superb viewing, and an essential addition to any western lovers collection.So get your best whiskey, and open a can of peaches, you owe it to yourself to watch this excellent series.Edit. Looking forward to getting the film on 2nd oct 2019

Once the bad language has become almost unnoticeable ( surprisingly it didn't take long!) we were both hooked on this. Sometimes very funny and at times heartbreaking, it feels far more authentic than most 'life in the Wild West' stories and doesn't pull any punches. The only disappointment was the very last episode which was most unsatisfactory, probably because the writers had hoped for another series which wasn't forthcoming. Can't imagine why, they seem to think the viewing figures dropped? Who knows....but although that's a great shame, I wouldn't let it stop me from enjoying all the rest, especially Ian McShane's brilliant portrayal of All Swearengen, and Brad Dourif's wonderful Doctor.

The series is fantastic - no doubting that - but I'm not reviewing the series, everyone and their cat seems to have done that. This is a review specifically for the 12 disk 'Ultimate Collection'. When I put 'Deadwood - Ultimate Collection' into the search engine a whole goody bag of extras came up which made me very excited. This isn't it, there is a single extra - a photo gallery (of contemporary images of Deadwood, and studio shots of the cast) at the end of Season 2, which I guess for the price I should have expected. If you just want the series, then this is fine, the discs are in slim cases that are easy to remove, there are no trailers or adverts, once you're through the legal bumph you can press 'menu' and get straight to it; Season 3 includes a 'play all' option - what more could you want? For me? I want more, I would want at least one or two episodes with commentaries at the very least, a documentary or two would be nice (I know they exist), perhaps some interviews - shoving them onto the discs is hardly going to break the bank.

Very good acting and very well depicted. The story of the wild west trying to get settled (if you can call it that!) I was so surprised with the range of characters trying to cope with the gold rush and settling into communities. It shows the harshness of the surroundings and conditions and exactly what the settlers had to cope with - and those that just could not adapt. The lead actors were brilliant - but be warned there is a lot of swearing and explicit scenes. Overall enlightening and thoroughly enjoyable.
