The sound quality is great, but they're not super-rugged.
I bought these headphones for my hubby when his old ones died. I listened to them once and was SO JEALOUS of these headphones, I can't even tell you. Not for the styling - these go a little too far into the ear for my personal taste. But the sound was so good compared to my junky old headphones that came with my phone. So I ordered a pair for myself and I was really excited to have such excellent sound. Can we get personal for a minute here? Sometimes I watch TV shows on my phone while I dry my hair. Look, drying my hair is SO BORING. So I watch a show while I'm standing there. And I have to have headphones, because...well, a hair dryer is loud, man. You just can't hear anything.Well, my normal headphones are tinny and harsh. God forbid an explosion happens in the show, because I'm already listening too loud for my own good and with that kind of noise, my ears will be toast. I mean, seriously. Ouch. (Yeah, I know, don't be dumb with your hearing, yadda yadda) But when I tried my husband's headphones, man, the bass was amazing. I was really impressed. I thought, "I'll never be miserable with my hair dryer TV viewing again!"I bought these and I was so excited, but they arrived with the cable pulled out of the microphone and didn't work properly. Boooo. So I sent them back. And now I'm back to my old ones, because while they are tinny and harsh, they're pretty sturdy. With these headphones, you have to ask: is sound quality more important than ruggedness? If so, these are awesome. The sound is great for the price, and if you're watching TV while you dry your hair, your ears won't hurt nearly as much as mine do. But if you want something thats a bit more rugged, you might need to choose something else.

Bang (and boom) for your buck
I am, ahem, frugal and a snobby audiophile. I am an IT consultant and require insulation from outside distractions when the work needs done. Regularly I jump on phone calls and GotoMeetings where I must type and talk; holding a phone is not a possibility. So the requirement: a set of ear buds with a microphone that sound good and drown out external distractions. The iPhone ear buds sound pretty good, but no sound isolation. The JVC HAFR201s do the trick. With a little equalization ([...]) these sound as good as my buddy's $300 Beats over the ear headphones, no joke. But the tone contouring/equalization is required to achieve "Beats" quality. I will submit that the Beats sounded better out-of-the-box, but for a $287 savings (I bought my JVC HAFR201s used for $13), I'll mess around with iTunes equalizer settings. These are worth way more than I paid.

This headphone rocks!
It's sad that its the end of the year 2012 and only now am I using in-ear monitors. I have tried a couple in the past but they just didn't fit in my ear well. Even with the smallest tips they kept falling out. I decided to give them one more try and after some research, I went with the JVC HAFR201R. I was reading the reviews on this IEM at the Head-fi forums and many of them loved the sounds this headphone produced for the price. Basically, this is for bass heads and I am said person. However, I do listen to many other musics as well besides just hip-hop and rap but these headphones really give a good thump when you listen to songs with various levels of bass frequencies.I really like the design of these IEMs because it sits in my ear pretty well. To my delight, the smallest ear tips are perfect for me and they rarely fall out of my ear even when I shake my head. Listening with these headphones sounds literally like they stuffed a subwoofer in my head. It's amazing and for the price, I really can't argue. In fact, these headphones are so good, I have no idea how the other more expensive earphones can compare. I've compared this to one of my friend's IEM for a similar price and this JVC just blows it out of the water. The depth of the bass while still maintaining the clarity of the vocals is superb. With others, the heavy bass usually means you sacrifice the highs. Not with this JVC.I initially wanted to get the JVC HAFX40 but the lack of a model with built in mic and player control turned me away. The only bad thing I can say about this earphone as others have noted is the poor wire quality. They feel cheap. However, I'm sure if you take care of them, nothing bad will happen. Also, I would love for future JVC earphones to go with the flat wire design to minimize wire tangles.

Great for working out
Great product, sound quality is good. Bass is good. I dont use the mic feature so i cant comment on that.I do HIGHLY recommend getting a set of Comply brand memory foam replacement earbud tips. They greatly increase the sound quality, although it was good to begin with for these. But i use these while running and the memory foam replacements help keep them in my ears and they are much more comfortable. This is actually my second pair of this line of earbuds from jvc which is the first time ive ever gone back to the same product for replacement. My wonderful cat decided my old pair were edible so i came home to the cord being in about 5 pieces.

Yeah, this is a miss...
Having bought the JVC HAFX1X Headphone, Xtreme-Xplosivs, I thought this set would be an improvement since it adds a mic for a "hands free" experience... These are nothing compared to the robust and quality build the JVC HAFX1X Headphone, Xtreme-Xplosivs offers. It almost feels like a cheap knock off to the Xplosivs. When I first took these out of package I felt disappointed to the build quality, tho BOTH pairs look alike. The Xplosivs feel more robust and are even "heavier" and sturdier than this pair here. The sound. albeit better than average, is a far cry from the Xplosivs. The bass isn't as striking.I guess I was too trusting of the picture and the same looks as the Xplosivs, but these are a definite step down. If you are looking for head phones with amazing club sound, the Xplosivs are the way to go, if you must have a headset with mic, I would buy these if you must as they still sound amazing compared to the average but the built is a disappointment... 2stars out of 5, due mostly on the build quality and slight let down on the sound quality compared to the sister Xplosivs.

De très bonnes basses ! 🔊

Good audio but poor life
Bought a second pair as one earpiece died about 7 months in. Same thing happened to my second pair 3 months in.Good audio but poor life due to how flimsy the connections are.

The sound quality when they did work was fine, although there was some noise from the cables ...
These headphone stopped working in one month and one day (just outside of the returns window). They were used every day during that period but were not treated poorly. The sound quality when they did work was fine, although there was some noise from the cables rubbing against clothing

Good product
Always buy this brand of headphones. Seem to last longer than any other brand I've bought at the same price. I use these everyday and they usually last 6-10 months Good music quality also. Would buy again.
