If you are interested in lime as a construction material, this is an important source of information for you. Early 20th century book with much better empirical knowledge on lime than any more recent book.

This is essential reading for practitioners specifying or researching traditional lime mortar design, preparation and specification. This volume summarises Cowper's work which is the last documented before the loss of lime technology for nearly a century. It is "un-tainted" by the various wayward winds of the lime revival including the recent fascination with the lime-lean NHLS. Binder-rich mix proportions and lime-rich binders are found here in Cowper's work. Contains early "specification" / classification for hydraulic quicklimes. Recently cross-referenced in prominent works like English Heritage's Practical Building Conservation 'Lime Mortar' volume.

They do not teach you this at college or university as they are called today. An enlightening if not frighteningly complicated revelation of the world of lime products once used in the building industry.
