Well, there was a nut missing on the toggle switch which made a hard use, but I was able to get by with it. I found a nut in my toolbox to fit it but to improve the product a clear mark should be made on the unit itself, so you know what position it’s in the cd should be marked with the product name

This is an inexpensive hardware piece of the hardware/software puzzle needed to read, diagnose and configure predominantly Ford model vehicles.Up to date software is needed and one needs to go searching the internet to find it. With some digging it is possible, but be prepared to spend time understanding how all the components fit together. This solution alone is not plug and play.The primary software application for use with this device is FORScan, a freely available and regularly updated and supported scanner for Ford vehicles. This device does work with that software, but the developers of FORScan expressly disclaim support for these types of devices. There is a warning to that effect the first time you connect everything up. So it is very YMMV (your mileage may vary) but I was successful reading all the modules in a 2016 Lincoln MKC, reading and clearing DTC codes, reading PIDs, and even changing a few internal settings in the Lincoln body control computer.All features except the latter are free. Configuration changes are free for 2 months, then you must pay for continued use of the configuration changing feature.The unit comes with a mini-CD that has drivers for Windows vintage 2011. More up to date drivers are available on the internet, search for CH341SER drivers. The drivers I used are 3.8.2023.02 from 3/2023.I tested with both Windows 10, and Windows 8.1 with good results.The rest of the mini-CD is garbage. There are some outdated versions of very basic scanning software, and more disturbing , the CD has keygen modules use to bypass licensing and registration. Some of those keygens have malware and viruses. None of it is really useful in 2024.This particular device can only transmit and receive at the slow serial rate of 38400 baud.Also the manual HS/MS switch limits certain operations that can be performed that would require fast switching of modes. When working on the modules FORScan will advise when to flip the manual switch between modes, but one must be very careful not to get confused or bump the toggle switch at the wrong time.So, if your use case is just to read CEL codes and other DTC errors that the various modules may throw this unit will accomplish that. It will also provide decent configuration information and some real-time sensor data which might be good for troubleshooting certain conditions.I would not use it to program or change modules as its ability to do that may be compromised. The ForScan support website lists similar devices that are tested and directly supported by the developers.

This will allow you to connect to, read and adjust your onboard computer in your vehicle (with the right understanding of how to modify configurations and using the software included or some other open source software). This unit connects fairly easily to the port in our vehicle and the read time seems a little slow but that's likely also because of the speed of the onboard computer. The software is including on a mini-CD which most computers today (portable) don't have CD options so that seems a little old and dated but you can download the software but it takes some digging to find it.
