Easy to follow and worth it... pattern booklet sold separately
As a complete novice, I bought this (basically to learn how to make a granny square). Yes, this seems to be a DVD copy of an older VHS program and NO it's not in High Definition. I did learn the basic stitches and they were presented clearly. "Aunt Bev", as I came to call her while watching this DVD, crocheted the initial stitches slowly enough for me to follow...then she sped up afterwards,... but I didn't find this to be a problem. Originally, I had deducted a star because Aunt Bev is continually stating "...and the pattern for this is in the booklet"... "the pattern is in the booklet"..... and there was no booklet included with the DVD. However, after reviewing the DVD a couple of times, I decided that the knowledge I gained from the DVD was worth all five stars and then some. In fact, when another crochet book (for beginners)that I had purchased presented a basic technique in a way that confused me, I had to come back to THIS DVD in order to get instructions from Aunt Bev that were simple enough to clear up the confusion! And my granny square?... Aunt Bev covered that also. (For a super-duper step-by-step granny square tutorial, get 'The Art of Crochet 4 Kids). As for the other patterns and projects that Bev covers...the booklet is sold separately on Amazon., and I ordered that as soon as I found it. Again, overall, I think the basic instruction is worth the price. I was able to pause and reverse the DVD enough to follow along with her basics, and the angle was from an 'over the shoulder'-type view and easy to follow. I'm very glad I bought it, just for the overview of all the different types of stitches and things that can be done with crochet. Exceptional!

Thrilled with this Video!
I wanted so desperately to learn crochet, but could find no teachers or classes in my area. Craft books with pictures just don't cut it, and I needed someone to "show" me. This video lived up to my expectations and more. Bev Dillon slowly and patiently shows you all the basic stitches and goes way beyond the basics with little tips and tricks, then on to more complex and advanced techniques. The camera angles show you her hands as she works, and it helps so much because you can easily follow along as though you were looking over her shoulder as she crochets! A little pattern booklet accompanies the video (inside the video jacket - on the outside of the box. It's there, sort of hidden). This video is the next best thing to having a personal teacher. I only wish it were on DVD; would make it much easier to locate the chapters! Buy this if you want to learn how to crochet on your own. You'll be on your way in no time!A followup comment: This is finally available on DVD! I bought one, and it's a lot easier to go from chapter to chapter now. I've made so many crocheted items that I have had to give away bags to stuff to charities just the clear out some space in my house! Once again, let me emphasize that this is a very small investment for such rich dividends. Superb.

Good teacher but poor visual quality video.
This would actually be a very good video except you can tell it's transferred from an old VHS tape, and is not as clear as it could be. Disappointing in that respect. But the good part is the gal teaching knows her stuff. She walks you through different stitches so you can actually see how it's done and not just read about it. I would also look up on YouTube how to do certain things and just compare them. Some YouTube videos for crochet are great and others not so much. All in all, I would maybe lukewarmly recommend this video because of the poor visual quality. It should have at least been cleaned up and sharpened before putting it on a CD, if that's possible.

Crochet From Start to Finish*ing - Excellent How-to for Beginners on up
I have been researching "how to" crocheting books/tapes for several weeks, and most of the information I've found to date to be confusing and inadequate unless you had prior experience with crocheting. This video is very clear for a beginner with absolutely no experience. I have successfully crocheted a beautiful scarf within two weeks, and I'll start on a throw in the near future. I expect to be very proficient at this craft within months. I highly recommend this video to anyone interested in learning the art of crochet without frustration.

Finally and at last !
Finally and at last! a teaching tool that is all that I'd hoped for. I've spent money and time trying to get this type of explicit information. The setting is not state of the art, and it's not fine picture definition, but as one other reviewer said "who cares." The explanations are clear, not rushed, and the whoever is shooting the video is practically on top of her hands so that you can actually "see" what Bev is doing with her hands, the yarn and the crochet hook. Heck, even in an actual class you wouldn't be able to be this close to her hands ! I just spent hard earned money on a crochet book figuring I'll get the book and Bev's video....Should I even go there? The book is pretty, and the pictures are colorful, but after I'd browsed through it, I still was unclear as to where you put the hook in certain instances which is why my products grow, shrink, or otherwise do what was not intended when I'm attempting to crochet. I am so happy with this DVD....ENJOY Yourselves...Now you can get it right (smile).

All You Will Ever Need. Thank you, Bev.
I couldn't learn crochet from books. God knows I tried. I enjoy being with other women in classes, but they take place after work and keeping up when you're tired adds pressure, and when the class is large I feel guilty taking too much of the teacher's time if I just don't get something. I thought Bev's video was pricey, but I considered classes are $25 a pop and at 2-1/2 hrs. this is more like two videos in one. I swear this is all anyone will ever need to learn to crochet. The video is comprehensive, from absolute beginner to more advanced crochet, and Bev is calm and clear. Being able to watch the stitches being made, as often as you need, is far superior to trying to read a diagram or keep up in class. No pressure. I've since ordered Bev's knitting video. I CAN'T BELIEVE I'm really crocheting and LOVING it! For the first time, I can say "I really CAN do that!" Thank you, Bev.
