Not as offbeat as you may think!
This is such a great gift! It could work as well for a White Elephant gift as for a really heartfelt surprise for an admirer of Bob Ross and all he stood for. My husband admired Bob because he encouraged people to express themselves joyfully and be proud of what they created, leaving judgment behind.

Bald spot bob
This was a fun family project and the kid loved watching it grow. Bob never grew on the top and looked pretty ridiculous but we had some laughs and enjoyed it.

Leaky Bob
I love all things Bob Ross, so imagine my thrill when I came across this Bob Ross chia, um, thing. I mean, who wouldn’t want their very own miniature Bob Ross immortalized in terra-cotta? And it even looks enough like Bob to be recognizable, especially when he’s in full bloom. The seeds sprout and grow as expected, and so it does what it’s purported to do. So why three stars instead of more? It leaks. You see, Bob Ross is hollow and you fill his entire head with water, topping it off daily via a hole in the back (to be perfectly clear, I’m talking about the Bob Ross chia thing, not the real Bob Ross. The real Bob Ross is now a happy little tree somewhere.) It comes with a shallow plastic drip tray, as seepage is to be expected, but this one leaks it’s entire volume of water and will easily overflow the drip tray if you don’t empty it twice daily (or buy a deeper drip tray). When I inquired with the company, they said such a volume of leakage suggested a defect, and they graciously offered to send me a replacement. And that one leaks too, alas. And so now I have two incontinent Bob Ross chia things in my house. This is clearly a case where two Bob Ross’s aren’t better than one.

My chia seeds were duds, but the bust of Rose is hilarious, so I don't even mind that she didn't grow a green 'fro.

This was my first chia pet and I enjoyed watching this product grow. I used instructions from a blog that suggested after the planter and seeds had completely dried, use a spray bottle and a plastic bag to dampen the planter with water to allow the seeds to germinate and stick to the planter to help stop seeds from sliding off. Once the roots were long enough, remove the plastic bag and add water daily to allow the chia seeds to grow. I would also probably use a little less than 2 tsp of chia seeds (maybe 1.5 tsp) for this chia pet, as I had a lot of seeds left after I covered one layer of seeds on the entire head.
