Maxcatch Premier Fly Fishing Rod with Avid Fly Reel and Rod Case: 3/4, 5/6, 7/8-weight Rod and Reel Combo

For the price you can't beat this combo. After loosing a couple dozen steelhead with my 5x the cost Orvis 8wt I purchased the 6 wt and haven't broken off yet.My only complaint is the drag. Every now and again it goes to zero drag, not sure if I bump it or what but it surprises me everytime.

I wanted to wait until I've had some real time with this set. I've fished about 80 hours or so with it so far, and now I can give an objective opinion. I got the 8wt. This thing HUCKS line. I've paired a Rio bass taper line and a spare spool with a Fenwick world class intermediate line and I can throw some big fluffy streamers out to 80 feet or so, and i am no great caster. The fit and finish are great. Binding thread is smooth and well wrapped and the epoxy coating over them is even and has a nice, smooth transition. The whole thing goes together well and stays together until you take it apart on purpose. It is stiff enough to power line out in the wind and sensitive enough to hunt small bluegill if thats all that is biting. The grip is the only thing that I take a bit of issue with. It is comfortable, it fits well and doesn't move around, but I question it's durability. It has many filled in small pits and some of the fillings have popped out. Not sure how to, or if you can replace a grip, but it may come to that eventually. Or the thing is cheap enough to just replace the whole rod.The reel is great, too. The whole thing goes together well and has very little clearance between cage and spool, which eliminates chances for snags on the line. The finish is nice and even and seems durable enough. The reel is incredibly light for its size. I haven't honestly been able to put the drag to the test yet, but it is easily adjusted and goes from dead tight to free wheeling in a matter of maybe 2 turns of the knob with lots of fine adjustment in between.The case is well built and thoughtfully put together with built in rod segment sleeves and a generous pocket to hold accessories. It is a bit on the heavy side, which isn't, in most cases, a deal breaker but can make for a slightly bigger burden if hiking in to a remote location to hunt for pigs. I don't have any high end rods to compare it to, but i don't know if there is a better value out there.

You will NEVER find a fly outfit of this quality for the price!It’s certainly not the very top of the line, but never claims to be. That would cost you $2000.If you are on a budget, or want a first outfit, than this is a bargain and a better than entry level set up. It’s in the back of my SUV 24/7 as in Fl we have tons of road side canals. If it breaks I won’t get upset as it was a bargain. It casts very well and reel has a very smooth drag for the price.This set is half the cost of a great reel noLess the rod comes with it.But it even if you are accomplished. We all want that spare just in case setup. This is it.

Just received this 8’4” 3wt rod and quickly set it up with backing, fly line and leader; OUTSTANDING! This is my second Maxcatch rod set up and I’m extremely happy. Put the line in my pond and caught 5 bluies and bass in a matter of minutes. Even my 5yr old son caught his first fish ever by himself using my 6’6” 2wt maxcatch. For the money this set up is dynamite. My opinion, these rival the higher end rod and reel outfits. Highly recommended!

I broke this rod my first time out. I live in Helena, MT and I fish like crazy. This rod actually feels really good in hand and casts well. The problem is that it is a piece of junk quality wise. I hooked a fly on a log and tried a normal flick cast to get it off which broke the rod. I have never had this happen with any of my normal 'name brand' rods. I cannot figure out how to get it replaced either. I have messaged the vendor on their website and I have received no response. I would be curious to try one of their higher end rods and I would replace the rod for something better but as of right now I am stuck.

Upper part of rod broke. Confusing warranty process - it could be much clearer. Contact the seller through Amazon even after the normal return period ends.

Nice looking combo and functional.I was concerned about the medium fast action but I made the adjustment after a couple of cast..This is a very good combo for the price and I am glad I purchased it.

Both Reel and Rod are similar as well as Good as most high dollar named brands . Very pleased with this Combo, The Drag by Far is smoother then most high dollar reels and spool as smooth to. Rod is Awesome very High Quality has great whip and bend . Only thing I found I'd like different is that they'd package it similar to others with a Rod and Reel triangle Tube but other than that I got what was promised and I'm pleased !!

Nice beginners rod. Recently broke and is being replaced on warranty which is excellent service.

Used this for bonefishing in the Bahamas, worked well smooth reel and good weight for tossing shrimp/crab flies.
