8 Piece Wood Chisel Woodworking Lathe Hand Tool Set by Science Purchase

A year and some has passed since the purchase of these chilisels. I was hesitant about the quality and durability.I'm very pleased to say that I have put these through a great deal of use while learning to use a lathe. The have held up admirably.Yes, I have had to resharpen them often in the beginning. I dug them into soft woods, and burned them on hard woods.Once I gained some skills, the edges held on much longer. Thankfully they sharpen with reasonable ease. Nice as I was learning that skill too. Once I learned to turn well, and hone a better edge, they look like they will be with me for a very long time.I might add a few more turning tools, but this was the right set to start with.

Decent lathe tools for the price. They won’t last long, but seem adequate to get started with before investing in some more serious turning tools if the hobby becomes something worth pursuing in the future. The steel seems to stay reasonably sharp, but the handles and build quality are not super awesome. They did not cost $75-100 though so, for the price they are right where they need to be in terms of quality. I didn’t expect finely crafted, balanced professional lathe tools for that price point either. Am happy with them and would say you could spend way more and get some that will do the exact same job, you just won’t look as cool to all your wood turner geek friends doing it... :-)

If you are expecting chisels that are ready to go out of the box, you're going to be disappointed. They will all definitely need sharpening and in some cases reshaping. Also they feel very light in the hand, which isn't a good thing for a lathe chisel. After sharpening they got the job done for the bottle opener handles I was shaping, but if I were doing something heavier I don't think they would have worked out very well.

I've bought upwards of 100 things from Amazon. Never wrote a review ever. These things are complete garbage. One came with the tip broke. One had the collar rolling around in the box. Every handle seemed to be made from a different wood. Do not buy. I know there cheap but I'm literally throwing them away. Screw the hassle of trying to get my money back.

They were a good buy for the money. You could buy ones that are thicker, and a little more expensive, but it all depends on what you are using them for, For myself, they do the job, with out costing a arm and a leg.

They work, but you need to sharpen them first.Also, you will want to make longer handles for them.

Super dull when arrived. Basically a good set to try your hand at sharpening. Not sure they'll hold up for long.

We bought these for our 13 yr old son along with a beginner lathe and they are working fine. We didn't want to spend a lot on something for a beginner, but these are holding up well and doing the job.
