I'm in the process of packaging flour, bisquick and cornmeal for long term storage in Mylar bag 1 gallon bags. These items contain a lot more air than rice, beans, pepper corns and therefore require a larger oxygen absorber than normally used in a one gallon bag, i.e., a 300cc packet.. The 500 cc packet is just the ticket. 100 packets may seem like a lot but they are package in lots of 10 each, Use as many as you need. The remainder will stay fresh. I'm hoping to extend the self life of these goods from one year to 3 years by removing the oxygen which is the killer.. Oxygen decreases self life. Also, the oxygen absorber packet will kill any weavels that may there. I've encounter that problem is freshly opened boxes of these products. Highly recommend PackFreshUSA products.

Using 2, 8 oz mason jars with new rings and lids, place a 500 cc quickly in one of the jars and tighten up the lid so air cannot leak. In the other jar put nothing, but tighten up the lid also. To be sure wait 24 hours, but tapping on the lids with a wood chopstick holding the narrow end (or any substitute you feel ok using) the difference in sound will tell the story. Also you should see the center 'button' of the lid with the o2 has collapsed but not on the other jar without an o2. (You may also hear the button ping within a few minutes.) Use caution that 'you' don't push the lid button down. This may work with larger jars, I didn't test though. To clarify, you don't have to wait 24 hours to hear the sound difference, most likely, but if none is noted early it's best to wait 24 to be sure. This brand passed my test.

I usually make about 15 pounds of jerky at one time and without these they tend to go bad, second time I’ve used these and they are great!
