Impressive sound
I have some pretty serious esoteric audio equipment in the house and really enjoy proper sound.I have two 5th gen echo dots (the ones with clock displays), connected in a stereo pair in the main bedroom, one on each of the bedside tables.I have placed the echo sub under the bed and have linked it to the two dots using the standard Alexa app functionality.Every time I listen to this little system, I am blown away at how good the sound is from this relatively inexpensive set up.My wife and I really enjoy Sunday mornings lying in bed listening to, and feeling our favourite tunes. Can't recommend it enough.

Fantastic addition to the speakers
After some initial teething problems I must say what a fantastic addition to go with my two Studio Speakers. The sound from the speaker just adds that extra dimension. I would highly recommend one to compliment a Studio speaker set up.

Pretty Good
Ok. Been hmmmm'ing and arrrrr'ing about getting one of these for a little while, reading the mixed reviews and thought I would just give it a go and see for myself, so I finally went for it.I have just gotten mine, 1-2 hours ago, so am gonna do a first impressions review and will update later as I play more sounds through the sub and decide if I am gonna keep it or not.First, this thing is heavy, they have stuffed a LOT of stuff, in a small space here, but to be fair it is pretty small really and looks quite good, just a shame it only comes in black really.Packaging, fab, it is really well packed, inside the box it even comes with it's own carry/store/dust bag which is really good, the whole thing feels really well put together and really well packaged and presented.Pairing, was an absolute piece o cake, for me at least, so no trouble there, literally took 60 seconds, and I was playing music through it, paired to one of my Gen 4 Echo's.Sound, seriously, I kid you not, this is a little beast, as many other folks have said, basically overpowers pretty much everything, so you have to mess about in the Alexa App to get it to calm down, I have mine sat on the carpet to help absorb some of the thumps, and even with it at -6 it is proper thumping, almost too much to be honest, but hey, some folks like it that way I suppose. Some of the noise is just that, noise, it seems to distract from the music and over powers some of it, so, it sounds a bit flat and muffled in places, I have fiddled with the settings on the app, but as other folks will tell you, the single biggest failure and let down of this device is the complete lack of ability to control it independently from your linked device. So, you have no real control over the sub in terms of power or output, you cannot simply turn it off or disengage it if you are playing something lighter or need something a bit gentler and need to kill the constant thumping or drowning out of the mid tones/treble tones, though I suppose you could just unplug or unpair it, but what is the point of that, it just becomes a very heavy giant lego head paperweight then. You would, of course, not need to turn it off if you could control it directly, you could just turn it down a bit, but you have no control over it in terms of Bass or Volume, which to be honest is a serious oversight of huge proportions IMHO, and this, despite it clearly being a quality bit of kit, makes it a terrible choice in some setups/places and makes it harder to live with as it lacks any real flexibility in daily use, in short, the software is rubbish, and this really is the fly in the ointment here and really am suprised that Amazon have not sorted this out cos this is a huge, constant, complaint from pretty much everyone. The other niggle I already have, I cannot directly control the volume from the Amazon Music app, I have to keep switching between Alexa and the Music app or talk to the Echo, which of course reduces the volume and interupts the song/music, none of which of course are so bad, but which again, makes it fairly frustrating to use. Again, I feel let down by sub-par software, and when you consider the amount of cash many of us pay for Music/Prime etc, and the amount of cash we all spend with Amazon, it is really not good enough.Overall, some stuff sounds really quite good, other stuff sound dead and flat because it is suffering from thump overkill, there is no balance to it.I want to love it, I thought it would be nice addition to my Gen 4 Echo's and dots, I am just not sure at this point if I can love it and am not sure if I am willing to just, put up with it.Will update things over the next couple weeks before I decide if I am keeping it or not.UPDATE:So, have had it a week or so now, and decided to hook up both my Echo Gen 4's to the sub and it sounds so so so much better, using only one of the Echos the sub was just overpowing everything. Most stuff, sounds pretty good, some stuff still sounds a bit flat and sometimes a bit odd, but overall, really quite pleased with it and would recommed it to folks with the advice that when hooked to a single device, it may not be a great experience, depending on the type of music you like of course, cos it just overpowers everything is quite unpleasant, but hook it to two (not sure how this would be with Echo Dots as they are smaller) devices, such as an Echo or Studio and it sounds pretty good. Not quite loving it, but rather, I really do quite like it, and will be keeping it.

Brilliant Sound With 2 Echo Studio Speakers
Well I have 2 echo studio speakers & after reading some reviews I decided to buy the Echo Subwoofer to complete the group. I must say it is a very sturdy addition to my other speakers.Let me get the negative out of the way first. The Echo Sub arrived & I was eager to set it up with my Echo Studios. Time after time after time I tried to set the group up together as instructed but it was like banging my head against a brick wall. In the set up it said if there were any problems then you should contact the Amazon Tech Team but I thought I could set the group up myself. How wrong I was, I think in the end it was my pride that was stopping me from contacting Amazon. Well I finally decided enough was enough & rang the Amazon Tech Team & they were brilliant from the outset, so knowledgeable. patient & friendly. After nearly 90 minutes on the phone my speaker group was finally up & running The sound was absolutely amazing & if you can afford the 2 Amazon Studio Speakers & the Echo Subwoofer you will not be disappointed. Why it took so long on the phone with the Tech Team was because I had made a couple of mistakes on the setting up.So, if you do decide to buy the Studio Speakers & the Echo Sub & you have doubts about setting up the group yourself, then don't even attempt it. Just call the Amazon Customer Services Tech Team & they will have the system working in no time at all. Once again let me say what a brilliant sound you get whether with the tv or playing music through Alexa.

The bass is way too loud and overwhelms the Echos
Ive been wanting a sub to compliment my echos for ages.I have it paired with a stereo pair of 3rd Gen Echos at the moment. The echos on their own sounded fantastic as it was.I also have Studios in another room, and various other models around the house. The bass from the sub is just too loud and boomy compared to the Echos. (which sounds like a nuts statement)It overwhelms the sound and does not extend or compliment the echos. The bass just swamps the EchosTHERE IS NO VOLUME CONTROL FUNCTION FOR THE SUB to reduce its volume to balance it with the Echos.Further, pairing with a Firestick 4k, also didnt provide any additional controlThis is not an EQ issue but a volume relationship issue between Sub and Echos.Appears to be a long standing problem that has never been addressed - but has been experienced and reported by MANY people... now ive looked for a solution. It would purely be a software update to cure it.Do not buy, You will be disappointedUnless.....You have a single / small echo in a large room..... 'maybe'Or, a pair of Echos in a HUGE room.... like a barn. Then i could maybe see the benefit.
