Teaching at Its Best: A Research-Based Resource for College Instructors, 4th Edition 4th Edition

This is a must read for anyone who teaches on the college/university level!! I began teaching after working for 25+ years, so needless to say, I knew my profession but didn't really know how to teach it. I shared a copy of this with my dean and he now gives a copy to all of his new adjuncts and professors. It's full of practical information, like how to develop curriculum and structure the learning environment. I only wish I'd had a copy before I'd jumped into the world of higher ed!!

If you are an instructor, seasoned or new, this has useful information. I teach both online and campus courses. I have used a lot of tips from this book to better engage my students. While it has a lot of useful information in the book, I think it may be most helpful for beginning instructors. Of course, there are many seasoned instructors who never received formal training to teach at the college level. Therefore, I recommend it for all college instructors. There is also some useful information regarding how to engage students, which K-12 teachers may find helpful.

Liked the rubrics and tools for assessment in a college course. I also enjoyed reading more about self-regulated learning. This book definitely helps those that are wanting to improve learning outcomes and to help students become better learners.

Reading for graduate class. Good book.

Using this book as the book club choice for new faculty this year. Each of the new professors can look ahead and use what they need but we meet each Tuesday over lunch and discuss a chapter (or two). Nilsen does a great job explaining for novices but providing ideas for the veteran professors, too.

Boring as heck but valid points

Easy to read, concise but comprehensive, practical not a bunch of theory blah blah blah

I teach a practicum course and use this book for my graduate students. It's a great resource for them and a good refresher for me.
