Replaceable Batteries! Only handheld worth buying

I am so tired of fighting with manufactures over poor batteries and every one failed to replace under warranty. This 155 model uses AAA rechargeable batteries. That's all you need to hear. They go bad, $8 available at any decent store or Amazon. Even runs on regular AAA batteries no problem.Charger only brings batteries up to 1.28v each. You should buy a decent multi state charge conditioner to use once a year to restate the battery charge.I will never buy lithium battery radios again. 4 aaa alkaline batteries a season in the ditch bag just in case and I'll never need to worry offshore.3w power is a tad low but got the bridges on ICW at 1nm out no problem. Works well on open water too. Water proof worked well for the one time it was dropped in the Bahamas. No worries. Hit two rocks and into the ocean at Shroud Cay. No damage.Belt clip doubles as battery tray opener, nice touch.

Great hand held.

II am not much for rechargeable marine devices as they just add one more step to lidpfe, BUT..this is a little jewel . Very intuitive. Its floats. It’s water resistant. You can hear it very well it has prepogrammable scan and people hear me. Would definitely buy again.

Pretty good with some annoyances

This is a decent radio for everyday use. Channel selection is easy, with a big, easy to read, display and a lock function to prevent accidentally changing channel. Signal is clear and it has dual/triple watch.Things I found disappointing:- the belt clip is weak (actually, it's broken, see the image--one of the slide rails, left side of image--is entirely gone, the other is bent) and although it worked well enough at first it now comes loose if I actually try to hang it on a belt. It's barely a year old, and has not been heavily used.- the dual/triple watch works, but does not stop scanning when a signal is found, so the incoming message you're listening to will have gaps in it as the system scans to the others, the gap is long enough and frequent enough to make it hard to understand the transmission.- the unit is supplied with NiMH batteries, and a 12v "car cigar lighter" style charger. There is no mains powered charger option. I suspect that a 12v charger could easily be found, but I'm not sure if such would be a safe substitute. Also, just for information, the unit will run on alkaline AAA batteries, but the transmit life is very limited, and the battery level gauge will still show full when such batteries are no longer capable of transmitting at all (I assume this is because Alkaline has a nominal 1.5v while NiMH is more like 1.2 at full charge)All that said, it's worked just fine for race days on the small lakes I sail on.

Exactly what I was looking for

I received my order just in time to take it with me on an ocean kayaking trip. Before heading out, I wanted to get acquainted with it. Needless to say, after reading the manual, inserting batteries (more on batteries in a sec), and stepping through the channels, I was ready to go. Literally, it is that easy. Just read the guide, it will step you through the way. What I like is that this radio offers a triple weather alert. Meaning it's monitoring multiple channels every 2 seconds. I realize that is more for boats/vessels, but I feel safer knowing it is available to me. I also like the big clip that you snap on the back. I tried it on my PFD (*before heading to the water), it fits perfectly by clipping on with no problems. One thing to be mindful of. DONT USE THE BATTERIES THAT COME WITH IT! Through the setup and learning process, which requires you to turn the radio on and off for a few settings, depleted the batteries to halfway. This could be a danger if you're out on the water and have an emergency and need to make multiple calls for assistance. So, I switched out the crappy batteries and inserted my own. I played with it for like 20 min just to see if maybe my unit was faulty etc., or if it was the batteries. Sure enough, after all my turning it on and off, changing backlit color (which is super cool btw), the batteries I inserted did not drain the battery. So my radio is fine, it was just the batteries that come with it are terrible. So take them out, replace them with new batteries, and go enjoy your day on the water. Trust me, you will feel much safer having this awesome radio with you. Cheers.

Doesn’t work after being drop in saltwater for 60 seconds.

I purchased this for kayak fishing. Two weeks ago, my son dropped it into the water, we retrieved it under 1 minute, rinsed it off when we got home because it was dropped in saltwater. Charged it, and went out today, and it just wouldn’t turn on. So, no way I can trust this thing if I went overboard and expect to be able to contact coast guard or anyone for help.Edit: decided to call Uniden, they quoted me $85 to send in for repair. Asked about 3 year warranty, was told once they receive it, they will than determine if problem is covered under warranty, but I still have to send in $85 first. So if they decide it’s not cover under warranty, it be cheaper for me to buy a new one. LoL….

Simple to Use and Reliable

I have owned my Uniden Atlantis 155 Since 2021. I have been very happy with the simplicity of use without needing to constantly go back to a manual for instructions. The battery charge lasts for several days. To help preserve battery life I leave it on Channel 16 and start transmission on 1W. Occasionally I use the scan/tri scan feature but most of the time it is not necessary. I have also found that if I charge it inside with a wall adapter I get a better charge.UPDATE 2024: My rechargeable batteries of the unit died. I purchased AAA Ni-MH EBL 11000mAh batteries as my replacement. My radio holds a long charge again. If you feel you are not getting a long life out of your batteries, simply replace with the correct batteries (very important) before replacing the whole unit.

It is great for on the go

I got this for my Kayak and i love it so far. This dose not have to be registered. Great for on the go on the river, NEVER USE IT ON LAND Great value and the price is just right. It's good enough for a kayaker and I highly Recommend this to any kayaker or go for the same one but the atlantis 275 which has more bells and whistles and dcs and gps feature, Might not forget the uniden atlantis 275 requires an MMSI
