does the cover fold all the around to the back of the calc or does it just open like a book

The cover folds over so that the calculator looks like a little book. We use it to balance the check book and it works out just fine. Then we put in the kitchen junk drawer until the next month. Love it and can't beat the price.

exactly how small is this calculator? 3" tall or so?

Hi-When the case in closed: 4 1/8" high x 2 1/2" across. When open and laying flat: 4 1/8" high x 5" across. When open, the caculator is located on the left hand side and the case cover is hinged on the right. The hinge allows you to totally flip it around and underneath the left side under that calculator. So if you do that, then the dimensions are 4 1/8" high x 2 1/2" across. I love this calculator, perfect for the tight space in my purse! And also love the hardcase for extra protection.

Is this solar powered?

It's a twin power calculator...both solar and battery

There is no off button. It switches to battery power when there isn't enough light so closing the cover keeps it on - how does it ever turn off???

At some point, although I have never timed it, it does turn off. Because, if you open the cover, the screen should be blank and you need to punch the on button. This is what I have personally done and never had a problem.
