Understanding Our Catholic Neighbors

Excellent read for anyone who wants to understand these two faiths
This short read is heavy on content! It is obvious that this author team respects each other and the beliefs that they are explore. The authors present a neutral and even overview of major themes and practices of these two belief systems. I would be comfortable sharing this book with any of my friends, regardless of their background.I do not know Catholic beliefs and practices well-enugh to comment on how the book represents Catholicsm. Howeve,r I was extremely pleased with the way that the beliefs and practices of the Church of Jesus Christ were presented. The book is shot, so it does not provide an in-depth, detailed discussion of either faith. This was intentional and works for the objective of the authors and this book series.Section 3 on Interfaith Dialogue is an invaluable read for anyone who wants to have meaningful conversations with people from different perspectives. While the book focuses on beliefs and traditions of Catholicsim and the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, the content in Section 3 applies to any discussion between faiths and other ideological systems (e.g., politics).I wish I had been able to read this book before I served my LDS mission in a Catholic-majority country. I loved the people that I met and had great interactions; however, if I'd been able to read this book, I would have had a much deeper appreciation for the beliefs, backgrounds, and culture/traditions. I will encourage my sons to study this before they leave on their missions. Regadless of where they are called, the tone, approach, and strategies in this book (especially Section 3) will help them better serve, love, and engage.I received this book as an advance reader from the publisher. All views and opinions are my own.

Very Informative
This short book, compares the Catholic and LDS churches. It gives a history of the Catholic church. It then gives beliefs and doctrine, it compares beliefs common between the Catholics and LDS and tells where they are different. There is a section on Catholic practices. I think the section on interfaith dialogue will be very helpful in discussing religion, with my catholic neighbors. This series on different, churches is a must read for an understanding between religions. Members of the LDS church need to learn about other religions so they can be able to discuss their religion with others. I received an advance reader copy of this book but the opinions are my own.

Really well done book
I loved this book. It is short and sweet. It covers a lot of great ground with brevity. This was less than a two-hour read for me.In a time when civility and understanding are discouraged, this book flips the script. Here we can find opportunities to improve relationships between people and churches through education and awareness. The authors have created a very approachable work that fosters respect and attempts to bring people together. The theology covered is very simple to comprehend. The book is written in a way that I believe most everyone will learn something. Highly, highly recommend this work and I look forward to future versions that include content on other faiths beyond Catholicism.I received an ARC, but all opinions are my own.

Great resource
When I was a young adult I traveled to Spain as an au pair, and one of the first things I was asked was how does my religion as a Latter-day Saint compare to my host family's Catholic beliefs. I knew very basic ideas and not enough to really answer that question. I was excited to read this book and understand Catholic doctrine better, I love how it highlights commonalities for mutual understanding! What a great idea to write a book as a team, one from each religious perspective!I received an ARC copy of this book, but my opinions are my own, I recommend it!

Well organized and comprehensive book exploring Catholicism and The Church of Jesus Christ
This is like a little encyclopedia of Catholicism and includes comparisons to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. I grew up LDS but all of my friends were Catholic, so I attended church and activities with them sometimes. This book gives the WHYS of the rituals I participated in but didn't have a clue what I was doing. I love the unbiased way in which both churches are explained. I learned SO much from reading this book and appreciate the author for writing it. I received an ARC copy of this book, but all opinions are my own and I would probably have bought it anyway.

Interesting and Informative
I have always enjoyed learning different faith traditions, so I was excited to read this book. I found to it be accurate and informative. (Although I am not Catholic, I have watched a lot of EWTN over the years, and everything in the book was in harmony with what I learned there). I also found the comparison of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saint doctrine and practices, which those of the Catholic Church very enlightening! The two churches have much more in common than one might think. I definitely recommend this book for any Latter-day Saint seeking information about and understanding of the Catholic faith tradition.

Great Resource
This book is a wonderful read if you are coming from the understanding of a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and want to learn more about about Catholic beliefs and organization. It compares things that are familiar in one church to the other, to help the reader better understand similarities. It is also helpful at explaining how the same word might mean different things in each church.I received an ARC copy of this book, but all opinions are my own

Learning to love all people
This book gave such good information about how we, as members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints can learn to love and understand our neighbors who have different beliefs and ideas than we do. I love how the authors of this book show how the Catholic Church is similar, and how it is different from the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Overall, it helps us see how much we have in common with all of our neighbors, and how much we can learn from each other.I received an advance reader copy of this book. All opinions are my own.
