Q: Is this definitely a hex crimp tool?

This is a hex crimp tool. Little bit cheap as chips but it does the job. Only down side I found with it is that you have to use the next size down crimp to the lug your using and also it wont auto release when it gets to the crimping pressure. You have to decide when its crimped enough and then release the pressure your self. But then what do you expect for such a cheap price.

Q: Can you use for bigger than 70mm if you have dies ? If yes can you by bigger dies also ?

Yes all sizes from 16mm to 300 r in the kit 16.25.35.50.70.95.120.>300

Q: Good quality or cheap tat? How well do the 4mm & 6mm jaws crimp?

The quality of the jaws leave a little to be desired, some misalignment from top jaw to bottom jaw and the locating pin will come loose (a little thread lock on the threads of the pin sorted this) but they do crimp quite well and any cable is secured well enough to take a substantial pulling force. They do the job that they were designed to do, cosmetically the misalignment means the crimp is not symmetric but it is only cosmetic, functionally it does what it is supposed to do. Longevity of use only time will tell but it does come with spare o rings to allow you to repair.

Q: Can this be used to join or splice stainless steel stranded cables? Are the dies suitable, or are the correct dies available?

It comes with the dies listed for electrical crimp terminals.unsure if other dies are available but there is no reason why you couldn't manufacture your own as they are only held in position by grub screws onto the locating pins.
