Works great!
My carriage on my mini lathe doesn’t have a spot milled out but the lock still works great. My only complaint is the mechanism gets in the way of the gib screws but I intend to replace them with shorter ones anyways

Important addition to mini lathes
This is a must have addition to your mini-lathe when you are performing facing operations. This eliminates the slop in the cross slide and allows much better facing. Installation does require drilling two holes and taping threads. If you have a metal lathe, those operations should not be too scary.

Comes in Handy
I'm an amateur machinist so I'm no expert. This item prevents the apron/carriage from slipping backwards, kind of a necessity when making cuts, the lead screw locking mechanism doesn't work as well.This one works perfectly on the 7x12 mini-lathe.
